In Africa he has steadily' been driven eastwards, each power in turn being either set free and independent, or con quered by a European force, till just be fore the war, Italy captured Tripoli, and Egypt passed finally out of Turkish hands during the war itself; so that today the Ottoman hold on Africa is absolutely nil. Asia is much the same, this war having completed the deliver ance; Arabia, Palestine, Transjordania, Mesopotamia and Syria; and all that re mains of Turkey in Asia today is Ana tolia; thus the great river Euphrates has been dried up to make way for a Kingdom of Anatolia.’ ” Palestine Problems “ Circles in touch with the Palestine Arab delegation in London speak confi dently of a readjustment of authority in Palestine in the near future. There is a lack of confirmation of any details, but an effort is being made to reconcile the opposing Arabs and Zionists. In the event of a working agreement being made, Palestine will be able to develop quickly. The country has been stag nant for so long that immediate pro gress can be easily achieved. Once Jews and Arabs can work amicably with each other and for Palestine, the danger of extra expense to the British taxpayer will have been averted, and another market for British goods will have been opened up. convention: Article 1: ‘The German General Staff undertakes to equip and provision 180 infantry regiments of the Red Army; a third of the rifles being of the Russian model of 1891, the re maining, the German Mauser of 1889. The Germans also undertake to provide the heavy and field artillery necessary for the armament of twenty infantry divisions.’ Article 2: ‘The Germans un dertake to reorganize the Russian navy in the Baltic and Black seas by provid ing German instructors, reorganizing the Russian personnel, and repairing the actual vessels.’ Then follow ar rangements for 500 aeroplanes, and quantities of asphyxiating gas and other war material. All this in a day when the world is sighing for peace!” Revival of Turkey The following is from the Prophetic News: ‘‘The proposed restoration of terri tory to Turkey is of special interest to the student of prophecy. The follow ing summary embodies the propositions: ‘The terms propounded by Great Brit ain, France, and Italy to the Greeks and Turks as a basis of peace, appear to be eminently just and reasonable. Tur key gets back all Asia Minor, with the exception of the town of Smyrna, which will be put under a special regime. Constantinople and the Straits are also restored completely, except for neces sary military precautions to be taken by the Powers. These include a Greek zone in an unfortified Gallipoli, r’&.rt of Thrace also comes back to Turkey, and Adrianople is to be under the same system as Smyrna. The Greeks retain the rest of their Thracian conquests.’ “ Many friends think the drying-up of the Euphrates means the waning of the Turkish power. We know Turkey has been losing ground and prestige for long, as Rev. C. Askwith says: ‘The ' Turkish Empire, which once extended far east into Asia, westwards across Africa to the shores of the Atlantic, northwards to the gates of Vienna, cov
