T H E K I N G ' S B U S I N E S S “ THE NECESSITY OF CHRIST” Necessity? Yea, Lord, a darkened world Found no road to the light of Heav enly day, Until, upon the scroll of Truth unfurled, It learned of Thee “ the Way.” The burdened conscience bare the load of guilt; The will enslaved could not unlooie its chains; Until the cleansing came through Thy Blood spilt, And freedom through Thy pains. Necessity? Yes, Jesus! Gods professed, Systems, philosophies, and man-made plans All failed to leave the poor world’s ills redressed, Failure— defeat— were man’s. But, with the glory'of the Father’s love, Bearing His message to the sin-cursed earth, Thou broughtest His salvation from above, Of precious, priceless worth. Necessity? Let Thy redeemed ones bear The witness of their great deliver ance! Thy Gospel and Thy Cross to them how dear! These— these— their bliss enhance. They need Th6e as the Resting-place of Faith! They need Thee as Companion on the Road! They need Thee in the solemn hour of Death, To lead them Home to God! Thou Bread of God! life’s sweets we 115 can spare; But let them go, have we but hold on Thee! In Thee we trust; to Thee we witness bear; Man’s sole Necessity. —William Qlney.

There shall be water.” Mr. Lewis de clared it illustrated the need of some sort of moral and religious training for these children. Professors Solemnly Protest Here is an advertisement put out by the Newton Theological Seminary: “The board of trustees of the Newton Theo logical Institution wishes to register its deliberate and solemn protest against the immorality and injustice of circulating insinuations and general statements re flecting on the instruction in our theolog ical seminaries. Common fairness de mands that those who make these attacks should, assume responsibility before the proper bodies for definite charges against the institutions and persons they con demn. “We speak only for Newton, but as the trustees of the first institution founded by American Baptists exclusively for theor- logical education, we call the attention of the denomination to the present situa tion. We protest against this covert propaganda.” The remarkable thing about this advertisement is that its state ments are general, containing no definite charges. It insinuates that there are certain parties telling lies about the sem inaries. If there are such malicious peo ple going around, their names should be made known and the conspirators should be brought before some tribunal and tried. Let us not stand for any “covert propaganda.” If these seminary profes sors who are complaining so bitterly, are really standing for the orthodox faith, and are being lied about, let us have the evidence against the miserable prevari cators: , An old-time prophet said, “Oh, that mine enemy would write a book!” Unfortunately, many of the complaining professors have written one or more books, so it won’t be hard to decide the controversy. ^¡4.
