RIDING INTO THE FUTURE Taking Action for Our Planet on Earth Day
Support Sustainable Transportation: Opt for eco-friendly modes of transportation such as walking, cycling, carpooling, or using public transportation whenever possible. Consider investing in electric or hybrid vehicles to reduce emissions. Educate and Raise Awareness: Spread awareness about environmental conservation by educating others about the importance of protecting our planet. Encourage friends, family, and community members to adopt sustainable practices daily.
Nothing beats the great outdoors! The rustle of leaves beneath your feet, the warmth of sunlight on your face, the fresh smell of grass — the world around us is beautiful. On April 22, we celebrate Earth Day to honor and protect our planet and only home. For me, honoring Earth Day isn’t just about acknowledging the beauty of nature — it’s about recognizing the importance of safeguarding it for future generations to enjoy.
One of my favorite ways to connect with nature is by getting out and horseback riding with my kids
as much as possible. It’s a fun experience that allows us to bask in the wonders of the natural world while fostering a deep appreciation for its beauty. In today’s world, the need to protect our planet has never been more urgent — our Earth faces many threats that jeopardize our ecosystems. However, the good news is that everyone has the power to make a positive impact and contribute to the preservation of our environment. Here are seven ways we can pitch in: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Minimize
Support Eco-Friendly Businesses: Support businesses prioritizing sustainability, eco- friendly practices, and ethical sourcing. Choose products made from recycled materials and support companies committed to reducing their environmental impact. Connect With Nature: Embrace
“Everyone has the power to make a positive impact and contribute to the preservation of our environment.”
your connection with nature by spending time outdoors, exploring natural landscapes, and
participating in outdoor activities. By appreciating the beauty and wonders of the natural world, we can develop a greater sense of responsibility and stewardship for our environment.
waste by practicing the three Rs — reduce consumption, reuse items whenever possible, and recycle materials such as paper, plastic, glass, and metal.
As we celebrate Earth Day and reflect on the importance of protecting our home and planet, remember that our choices today will shape the world
Conserve Energy: Adopt energy-efficient practices by using LED light bulbs, unplugging electronics when not in use, and investing in energy-efficient appliances. Additionally, consider installing solar panels to harness renewable energy sources. Conserve Water: Reduce water consumption by fixing leaks, taking shorter showers, and installing water-saving fixtures. You can even use rainwater harvesting systems to collect and reuse rainwater!
we leave behind for future generations. Get outdoors and find activities you enjoy — I know I’ll be saddling up the horses with my kids every chance I get! Together, let’s commit to protecting our planet and preserving its beauty for generations. After all, Earth is not just our home — it’s a gift we must cherish and protect.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2021, distracted driving was the cause of 3,522 deaths in the US. April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, an annual campaign highlighting the dangers of distracted driving and promoting safer, more attentive driving practices. Despite the growing awareness and stricter laws, distracted driving continues to be a leading cause of accidents, injuries, and fatalities. Understanding the severity of this issue, drivers must utilize strategies to minimize distractions and prioritize safety on the road. Here are five effective ways to reduce distractions and keep your focus while driving: Use Technology Wisely While often a distraction, technology can also be a tool for safer driving when used wisely. Activate “Do Not Disturb While Driving” features on smartphones or use hands-free devices strictly for navigation, ensuring your focus remains on the road. Secure Items and Pets Ensure that all items in the vehicle are secured and won’t move around while driving. Unsecured pets can also be a significant distraction. Use pet carriers or seat belts designed for pets to keep them safe and minimize distractions. Combat Distracted TIPS FOR A SAFER JOU
In 1902, the Barcolo Manufacturing Company in Buffalo, New York, implemented a 10-minute break for its employees in the morning and afternoon. The goal was to provide workers with an opportunity to enjoy tea or coffee with a snack. After the break, workers were ready for more time on the job, filled and caffeinated. Not coincidentally, the first vacuum-sealed coffee grounds were released around 1900, making coffee accessible during short breaks, and more companies started offering breaks. A 1955 court case, The United States v. Phil Greinetz of Los Wigwam Weavers , cemented the break into law. Greinetz was the owner of the Los Wigwam Weavers tie factory and struggled to find staff after World War II. He introduced mandatory coffee breaks so workers could get a boost to make it through THE HISTORY OF YOUR FAVORITE BREAK-TIME TREAT Coffee Lovers, Look No Further
the day. The problem? He wouldn’t pay the workers for their mandatory coffee break. So, the U.S. Department of Labor stepped in and won the workers paid breaks as they had a positive effect on the business. As time has passed, coffee breaks have evolved from a pragmatic solution in the industrial era to a worldwide phenomenon about more than just a moment to consume caffeine. It has become a social ritual, fostering camaraderie among colleagues and providing a space for informal conversations. These breaks have become a catalyst for creativity and collaboration, so enjoy this cherished cultural staple, especially if you work alongside coworkers in an office space.

Educate Young Drivers Teen drivers are particularly susceptible to distracted driving. In fact, according to Teen Driver Source, 7% of teen drivers involved in deadly accidents were reportedly distracted in 2020. Educating them about the risks and setting a positive example by avoiding distractions while driving is essential. Limit Passenger Interaction While driving in complete silence is unrealistic, limiting intense conversations or activities that divert your attention from the road is crucial. Encourage passengers to assist with navigation or managing calls/texts if needed. Avoid Eating and Drinking While it may save time, munching on a snack or scarfing down lunch while driving can be a significant distraction. It’s safer to take a few minutes to stop and eat rather than risk an accident.

In a heartwarming tale of courage and resilience, a pit bull named Kilo defied the odds after being shot in the head while bravely protecting his owner. The incident unfolded when an intruder invaded Kilo’s home. In a shocking turn of events, Kilo’s instinct to shield his owner led to a life-threatening injury, but “Super Pitty” survived, capturing many hearts, too. One Saturday evening 12 years ago on Staten Island, a gunman posing as a FedEx deliveryman rang the doorbell of Kilo’s home. He didn’t wait long before he pushed his way into the apartment. Kilo’s human, Justin Becker, told CBS, “He barged in. My first reaction after seeing the gun was to push him out, so I pushed him to the door.” Becker’s girlfriend, Nicole Percoco, had been holding Kilo during this encounter and let him go. Kilo jumped into action, fighting back against the invader, unfortunately getting shot in the fight. Luckily, the bullet just missed Kilo’s skull, entering and exiting right under his ears, said Dr. Gregory L. Panarello, the medical director of South Shore Animal Hospital. After a 40-minute surgery

In the pan, add remaining 1 tbsp oil, asparagus, and carrots and cook, stirring frequently, until tender, 2–3 minutes. 3. Add shallot, olives, capers, and garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. 4. Add wine and cook for 1 minute. Remove from heat and add butter; stir until melted. 5. to remove bullet fragments, he was patched up and even given a superhero insignia on his bandage.
Three days later, Kilo was up and going on every dog’s favorite pastime: walkies. Kilo’s story is a powerful reminder of the indomitable spirit of canine companions and the strength of their love for us. Even 12 years later, Super Pitty Kilo’s story still spreads love and happiness. Give your pet an extra cuddle tonight so they know just how much you love them!

History’s Greatest Pranks APRIL FOOLS’ DAY’S GREATEST HITS
April Fools’ Day, celebrated on April 1 every year, is a day filled with laughter, jokes, and pranks played on friends, family members, and, sometimes, the public at large. Its origins are somewhat murky, with several theories about how this tradition began. Some historians trace it back to the transition from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar in 16th-century France under Charles IX. Before the switch, the new year was celebrated at the end of March, and with the change, those who continued to celebrate the new year during the old date were mockingly referred to as “April fools.” Another theory suggests that April Fools’ Day was tied to the vernal equinox, a day when people were fooled by the unpredictable weather. Regardless of its origins, April Fools’ Day has been celebrated for centuries across various cultures, each adding its unique twist to the practice of pranking. However, there are some pranks that have made history as the craziest and most memorable. The Swiss Spaghetti Harvest (1957)

Burger King published a full-page advertisement in USA Today announcing the introduction of the “Left-Handed Whopper,” specially designed for left-handed Americans. This new burger
had the same ingredients as the original but rotated 180 degrees. Surprisingly, thousands fell for it, with some even
requesting the right-handed version.
The Flying Penguins (2008) The BBC struck again with a video report showcasing penguins that had evolved to fly. The
footage showed penguins taking flight from Antarctica and spending their winters in South America’s tropical rainforests. Many were enchanted by the idea, only to learn it
The British news program Panorama announced that Swiss farmers were experiencing a bumper
