Raising Chickens in the 1900s Hills Bank in Iowa City (1401 S Gilbert St) Wednesday, March 13, 1:00 p.m.

Join Doris Montag for another session from The History of Ordinary Things . This collection reminds us of farm life and the trials of raising chickens in the 1900s: incubating eggs, raising baby chicks, picking up eggs, dressing chickens, egg flats, and much more. Doris has also focused her collection on the evolution of the egg carton itself. She will discuss the transition from farm flocks to commercial production. Educational and entertaining, Doris will delight you with her storytelling and answer the important questions about the chicken and the egg! Register with a Friends Club representative at 319-679-2103 or Jaime_Roberts@HillsBank.com.

What is Brewing at Big Grove? Big Grove Brewery and Tap Room (1225 S Gilbert St, Iowa City) Wednesday, March 27, 3:00 p.m.

Way back when, Iowa’s pioneer settlers fell in love with an extensively wooded tract of land along the east bank of the Iowa River and bestowed upon it a nickname; “Big Grove.” The name soon became the designation for a township in Johnson County, where the brewery calls home. Today, under the historic banner of Big Grove, they seek to brew beer in the spirit of adventure, exploration, and community. Join us for a brewery tour, flight of beer, and light appetizers. Cost is $10 per person. Register with Jennifer Lough at 319-358-6160 or Jennifer_Lough@HillsBank.com.
