Harry and Edith Smallen

Harry and Edith Smallen Presented by The Foundation of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation

The Greater Miami Jewish Federation is grateful to the generous support Harry and Edith Smallen. Harry passed away on September 2, 1997. During World War II, Harry served by caring for injured soldiers and was described by friends and family as a “kind, gentle and charitable man.” He was named after Theodore Hertzl, the founder of the Modern Zionist Movement. True to his namesake, Harry generously and lovingly carried on a tradition of charitable giving. Harry’s wife, Edith, passed away on November 26, 2001 and described by those who knew her as a “wonderful humanitarian.” In celebration of her good will, Edith was honored with the Edith Smallen Day by the City of North Miami Beach. Edith and Harry had made a very generous donation to Parkway Patron’s Foundation for the purchase of 2,000 “Shadow Buddy” dolls, which were given to every pediatric patient at Parkway Hospital. The Smallens also made a generous legacy gift of over $200,000 to the Greater Miami Jewish Federation through a charitable trust, making them Forever Pacesetters and members of The Foundation’s Golden Care program.
