SRP Child Development Guide

CASE STUDY

FACT: By adding a new play environment , the New Vista Montessori School is able to foster physical development in children.

New Vista Montessori School in Roanoke, Va. is a non-profit that has been serving the community since 2001. As an associate member of the American Montessori Society (AMS), they follow the AMS curriculum, which includes language, math, sensorial, practical life, geography, and science. Our SRP Certified Partner MaxPlayFit worked with the school to create a new play environment centered around child development for children ages 2-5 years old.

There are 2 slides, 2 climbers, talk tubes, an arch bridge, and play panels throughout. This play area also features a glockenspiel musical instrument that children can play solo or with a partner. Movement play helps strengthen the body and develop important gross motor skills. It also provides opportunities to develop flexibility, adaptability, and resilience. Research shows the stages of brain development mirror the stages of play during early childhood. By adding a new play environment, the New Vista School is better suited to help enrich children’s physical and cognitive development.

This outdoor playground features ample play activities that help children reach important developmental milestones as they play.
