Breeding Guarantee: All bulls have been semen tested and will be fully guaranteed to be capable of settling healthy, sound and fertile cows of breeding age. Bulls selling for $5,000 or more will carry an additional guarantee against injury effecting breeding as declared by a licensed veterinarian; and not injured due to abuse or neglect. This guarantee is for the spring breeding period. The seller will give the purchaser of the bull credit at next year’s sale for one half of the purchase price, minus the salvage value. Seller of the bull must be notified immediately if injury occurs. If any other problems occur, the terms and conditions as stated by the breeding guarantee of the AGA (in the back of this catalog), will be in effect. Welcome to our 17th Annual Bull and Female Sale! We would like to welcome everyone to the 17th Annual Southwest Iowa Gelbvieh & Balancer Bull & Female Sale and the first Gelbvieh Breeders of Iowa female Sale. This year all of the bulls were tested at the Green Springs Bull Testing Center in Nevada, Missouri. We want to thank everyone at the Werner Feed Efficiency Testing Center for working with us over the past 16 years. Werner's were a great group to work with and are going to be missed after all those years. Also new this year the Gelbvieh Breeders of Iowa (GBOI) are hosting a female sale which will start immediately following our bull sale. There will be an excellent set of bulls and females offered, and with all the different breeding programs represented between the two sales, there will be several different genetic lines to consider. We want to thank Kent Abele and his crew at Green Springs for all they have done for us to get the bulls ready. Also thanks to Cody Frey and everyone associated with Creston Livestock Auction for all they do to help us get ready for our sale. Delivery: Any bull bringing over $5000 will be delivered free of charge up to 200 miles. Bulls sold farther than 200 miles will be delivered to a midway point between buyer and seller, as soon as it is convenient for both parties. Semen Interest Retained: The sellers are retaining a 50% semen interest in all the bulls in the sale. The buyer is getting full possession and 50% semen interest. If we choose to collect semen we will work with the new owner and schedule the collection around his schedule. About the EPDs: The bulls in the Southwest Iowa Gelbvieh & Balancer Sale have been tested and rated on all the major tests for breeding bulls; including ultra-sound for carcass, semen tested, scrotal measured, BVD tested and the new EPDs for weights, milk, carcass, etc. The new EPDs are more accurate through genetic testing, termed “Genomic Enhancement”. This is done by picking out genetic markers in blood samples for individual EPD traits and the degree they influence each trait. In the past EPDs have been calculated from many generations of weights and growth. The addition of genomic markers for each trait, combining the past accumulated records gives us the more accurate genomic enhanced EPDs.

Remembering our Friends… Carl Reiste passed away this past October after struggling with a long illness. Carl who owned Rafter R Gelbvieh was one of the three original members of the sale. He could tell you the life history of every cow and bull he had just by looking at their ear tag. His passion for his cattle and The Southwest Iowa Gelbvieh Sale will be greatly missed. Roy Holste after struggling with cancer for several years passed away in April shortly after our sale last spring. Roy was one of the first members to join our sale and always brought a group of bulls to put in the sale that anyone would be proud of. Both of these men are going to be missed by their families and all of the other people involved in our sale. Carl and Roy's families are going to continue raising cattle and putting bulls in our sale each year.
