UNIVERSITY OVERVIEW The doors of the Washington State Normal School in Ellensburg opened in 1891, founded to educate future elementary and junior high teachers. The normal school became Central Washington College of Education in 1937, Central Washington State College in 1961, and Central Washington University in 1977. Today CWU is a comprehensive university that provides high quality programs to over 12,000 people at eight locations. CWU’s Ellensburg residential campus encompasses 380 acres. There are also seven university centers (Des Moines, Everett, Lynnwood, Pierce County, Moses Lake, Wenatchee, and Yakima) and the CWU-Sammamish instructional site. Dr. James Gaudino has led the University as president since 2008. CWU’s administration is organized into four divisions, each led by a Vice President reporting to the President: Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs (Dr. Katherine Frank)) Vice President Business and Financial Affairs (Joel Klucking) Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Management (Sharon O’Hare) Vice President of Operations (Andreas Bohman) Also reporting to the President are the Chief of Staff (Linda Schactler), Vice President of Inclusivity and Diversity (Dr. Kandee Cleary), Vice President for Public Affairs (Kremiere Jackson), Vice President of University Advancement (Scott Wade), and Director of Athletics (Dennis Francois.) CWU offers a wide range of baccalaureate and master’s level programs. The University’s academic offerings are organized by colleges reporting to the Provost: College of Business (Dean Jeffrey Stinson) College of Arts and Humanities (Interim Dean Todd Shriver) College of Education and Professional Studies (Dean Paul Ballard) College of the Sciences (Dean Tim Englund) Libraries (Dean Rebecca L. Lubas) Graduate Studies (Dean Kevin Archer) William O. Douglas Honors College (Executive Director Anne Cubilie) Student Success (Dean Gregg Heinselman) CWU is governed by a Board of Trustees comprised seven members, including a student trustee. All trustees are appointed by the Governor of the State of Washington.
