At Swansea, our research changes lives. We are not afraid to tackle large issues, and have made a positive impact globally in areas such as the climate crisis, preserving ancient monuments, and improving health. We have led on the UK’s largest ever Seagrass restoration project, monitored global drug policies to enact change, used big data to reduce self-harm and suicide, and even developed buildings that generate, store and release their own energy. Many of our researchers also teach on our courses, so you will benefit from their knowledge and experience as part of your studies. You could even become part of a research team, helping to explore, prevent and solve global issues.

WE’RE HERE At Swansea we offer a range of services that you can access at any time, to support you through your university experience. For You
SETTLING INTO UNI
I remember the first few months at university were the hardest to adapt to. Not only was I ill and wanting the comfort of home but I was quite shy and felt as though I couldn’t connect to my flatmates who all wanted to go out partying most of the time. I am aware that others feel or have felt similar emotions at university but it is important to know and understand that you are not alone and do not have to deal with things by yourself. Sometimes, university can feel like a lonely place but having people accept and care about your wellbeing can help to off-set these feelings of isolation. It is also important to note that if you are too ill, you do not have to soldier on and make yourself worse (and feel as though you are in a rut), there are options for medical leave or extenuating circumstances. The University offers many services to help students who may be struggling; from in-house counselling and wellbeing services, to pastoral support from staff. There is no shame in using these services and acknowledging and admitting that you may need some additional help and support (as hard as this may be).
Hwb is here to offer information and guidance on any aspect of student life. So, whether you would like help enrolling as a student, want to pay your fees in person, want advice on housing, or student financial aid, Hwb is the place to go!

The Welsh language has always been an integral part of my life, and I am thrilled to be starting my new role as the Students’ Union Welsh Affairs Officer.
I graduated last year from Swansea University with a degree in Sport and Exercise Science and I applied for this role because I want to see and hear the Welsh language being used across the campuses and make it relevant to students today. My aim this year is to promote the Welsh language as a positive and natural part of university life, creating inclusive events and opportunities for students, as fluent speakers or learners, to engage. I am looking forward to working closely with Welsh Societies, Academi Hywel Teifi and the Students' Union to make this possible. It’s a privilege to have this opportunity to represent Welsh students and to ensure that the Welsh language is visible and thriving, and a natural part of Swansea University life on every level.

STUDENT
STUDY ABROAD Some courses allow you to spend a year abroad. The year abroad adds an additional year to a standard degree, after the second year of your course. You will usually study at a partner university or complete a work placement, depending on your degree. Enrolment on a programme with a year abroad does not guarantee you a year abroad placement. Spaces are limited and subject to a competitive selection process. In the event you do not secure a year abroad placement, you will be transferred to the standard variant of your degree scheme without a year abroad. You may need to meet a minimum academic threshold in order to participate in a year abroad programme. Available destinations may be limited by external factors, such as travel restrictions and capacity at partner universities. Associated costs of the year abroad (such as travel, visas, host university charges and cost of living abroad in the host country) will vary. Funding may be available. For more information visit: Find out more SUMMER PROGRAMMES Summer programmes offer valuable international experience in addition to your degree. You can choose from a range of cultural, study and volunteering programmes in countries such as Fiji, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the USA and across Europe. Find out more
Aimee completed a year abroad at University of Houston, Texas as part of her BSc Business Management course
Studying in Houston was a fun experience. I've connected with so many people and I now see things from a new perspective. I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone and embraced countless opportunities to try new things.
Emilija completed a year abroad in Hong Kong as part of the BSc Computer Science course
I loved the entirety of my time in Hong Kong, I’m happy I could study modules not available to me at Swansea and had the chance to take up a variety of other fascinating courses such as Astronomy and 3D animation. Aside from the university experience itself, I loved being able to sink my teeth into exploring the local area and culture. I can’t imagine not doing it!

Lamaa (LLB Law) spent a month in Fiji over the summer, volunteering with Think Pacific
My project involved building a medical centre. It was fantastic to provide the Fijian community with something so essential to the village. This opportunity in Fiji enhanced my ability to adapt, multitask and work in a diverse environment.

UNION
We are responsible for the societies, sports clubs, events, a series of services and an Advice and Support Centre to help you make the most of your time here. We also hold elections each year where we elect a team of 6 full-time officers to ensure your voice is heard by the University. They
represent you in all things – Education, Welfare, Societies and Services, Sports, and Welsh Affairs!
Carys Dukes SU President 2025-26
We have faculty and school reps too – these are students who work with the uni to handle anything students may face whilst studying. We also run the shops and bars on campus – JC's, Costcutter, and Fulton Outfitters. All the money earned at these venues is reinvested back into the student experience. The Students' Union also organises a number of unforgettable events such as Freshers' Week, Summer Ball, and Varsity... to name just a few!
Being at Swansea, is being a part of a community and belonging with your fellow peers. It is a place to thrive, grow and develop into the people of tomorrow. As students at Swansea, you are automatically members of the Students’ Union! We are run by students for students. The College, Swansea University, will equip you with the skills needed to fully prepare for Bachelor's level study. We also deliver teaching on a number of Swansea University’s Foundation programmes for UK students to ensure you have a gentle transition to university studies. As a full-time student of Swansea University, you will be provided (where possible) with one visa to cover your entire degree studies. Students of The College can live in halls of residences close to our academic teaching building on the Bay Campus.
INTEGRATED YEAR ONE As an integrated student, you will be taught alongside direct-entry students but with additional tutorials and a learning skills module. Your extra classes will concentrate on study skills specific to your chosen degree and are taught by The College’s highly experienced tutors. The Integrated First Year starts in September. INTERNATIONAL YEAR ONE For students of Business, Economics, Accounting and Finance, we offer a First Year programme with additional resource and support, taught in small classes. Our International First Year programmes in Business, Accounting and Finance start in September, November and January whilst Economics has intakes in January and September. ENTRY CRITERIA The College has minimum academic entry requirements, which vary dependent on the education system of prior study, and what subject you are looking to study at Swansea University.
