Swansea University 2027 Undergraduate Prospectus

STUDENT

STUDY ABROAD Some courses allow you to spend a year abroad. The year abroad adds an additional year to a standard degree, after the second year of your course. You will usually study at a partner university or complete a work placement, depending on your degree. Enrolment on a programme with a year abroad does not guarantee you a year abroad placement. Spaces are limited and subject to a competitive selection process. In the event you do not secure a year abroad placement, you will be transferred to the standard variant of your degree scheme without a year abroad. You may need to meet a minimum academic threshold in order to participate in a year abroad programme. Available destinations may be limited by external factors, such as travel restrictions and capacity at partner universities. Associated costs of the year abroad (such as travel, visas, host university charges and cost of living abroad in the host country) will vary. Funding may be available. You can choose from a range of cultural, study and volunteering programmes in countries such as Fiji, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the USA and across Europe. Find out more

Aimee completed a year abroad at University of Houston, Texas as part of her BSc Business Management course

Studying in Houston was a fun experience. I've connected with so many people and I now see things from a new perspective. I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone and embraced countless opportunities to try new things.

Emilija completed a year abroad in Hong Kong as part of the BSc Computer Science course

I loved the entirety of my time in Hong Kong, I’m happy I could study modules not available to me at Swansea and had the chance to take up a variety of other fascinating courses such as Astronomy and 3D animation. Aside from the university experience itself, I loved being able to sink my teeth into exploring the local area and culture. I can’t imagine not doing it!

Lamaa (LLB Law) spent a month in Fiji over the summer, volunteering with Think Pacific

My project involved building a medical centre. It was fantastic to provide the Fijian community with something so essential to the village. This opportunity in Fiji enhanced my ability to adapt, multitask and work in a diverse environment.
