With such a wide range of courses available, we encourage you to discuss your child’s aspirations with them. After they’ve chosen their course, the next big decision is where to study. It’s important that they choose the right university for them, as they will be spending at least 3 years there. RESEARCH
After options have been narrowed down, we recommend attending some open days, which are one of the best forms of research. They allow you and your child to view the facilities, meet staff and students, ask any questions, and get a real feel for the campus. UCAS APPLICATION
Students have a few accommodation options to think about; whether it's living at home, staying in halls, or going for private housing. At Swansea, we have residences on both campuses and across the city, with designated areas for quiet, single-sex, alcohol-free, Welsh-speaking and mature students. See page 18 – Accommodation. There are several dates worth adding to your diary to ensure your child doesn’t miss any key part of the process. When supporting them with their application, remember to discuss their ideas, and to proofread their statement. See page 48 and the inner back cover.
ENROLMENT
Results Day can be an emotional experience for your child, it can either be a celebration or a challenging time to reconsider their initial plans. Whatever the outcome, we are with you both at every step of the way – there are plenty of options available, and they can still go on to have a valuable university experience. RESULTS DAY
Moving away for the first time is a big step, for both your child and you. It’s important to give them time to settle in, build a routine, and get used to their new surroundings. Encouraging them to explore the area, connect with groups, or attend events can really help them feel at home.
