WHAT IS A FOUNDATION YEAR? A Foundation Year is an additional year of study, which you will join at the beginning of your studies, before entering the first year of your degree. Our Foundation Years have been created to give you the opportunity to increase your skills, experience and knowledge, and are suitable for those who may not have achieved the required grades to join the first year of their chosen subject, or those who have been out of education for some time. On successful completion of the Foundation Year, you will continue on to the first year of your degree. WILL STUDYING A FOUNDATION YEAR MEAN I AM BEHIND OTHER STUDENTS? Not at all, our Foundation Years are your opportunity to increase your skills and confidence, and you will join the first year of your degree with a wealth of knowledge and experience in your subject area. Many of our students go on to gain First Class Honours in their degrees, are great ambassadors for the University, and are highly valued by their department.
WHAT OTHER SKILLS CAN I LEARN IN MY FOUNDATION YEAR? The Foundation Year will give you a variety of skills relating to your subject, and is your opportunity to identify areas that you would like more knowledge on. For instance, if you plan on studying Physics and lack confidence in Maths, the Foundation Year is your opportunity to build your skills and experience in this area, which will help you during your degree studies. WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED TO APPLY? We consider applicants on their own merits, so offers may vary, but we guarantee** that we will make you an offer. This might be in the form of a typical grades offer. The typical offer is listed on the course webpage, but we are happy to accept a range of other qualifications, so please check the course page on our website for detailed and subject-specific criteria.
