THE ‘NEW’ SCHEURER HOSPITAL PERSPECTIVE

Specialists

Clare A. Scheurer, MD HOSPITAL FOUNDER

In today’s dollars, that same fundraising effort would be the equivalent of just under $8 Million raised in three months. That comes out to raising over $85,000 a day on average. This photo was taken during the ribbon-cutting ceremonies on Sunday, May 28, 1972. The crowd heard from Dr. Clare A. Scheurer (above), the founder and namesake of our organization, E.J. Clabuesch - board chairman and fundraising head and others. Now, more than 50 years later, Dr. Scheurer’s principals are still alive & well and act as the pillars of our vision of “Better Health. Better Life.”

When the “new” Scheurer Hospital opened in the spring of 1972, nearly 3,000 people lined up to tour the state-of-the-art facility. It was the culmination of over a thousand people coming together to fundraise for the new project and was wildly successful -- even garnering an award from the fundraising consulting firm in New York City. Over the course of just 90 days, 2,051 people pledged a total of $1,118,409.31 to fund the construction of the new Scheurer Hospital.
