Personal Health Guidelines • Stay home if you are sick, except to get medical care. • Inform a teacher or staff member if you have a sick family member at home with COVID-19 and to learn what to do if they are sick. • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or to use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available. Inform other students that if their hands are visibly dirty. Soap and water should be used over hand sanitizer. Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. • Cover mouth and nose with a tissue or the inside of the elbow, when coughing or sneezing. Throw used tissues into no-touch trash cans and immediately wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol. Learn more about coughing and sneezing etiquette on the CDC website. • Avoid using other individuals’ phones, desks, offices, or other work tools and equipment, when possible. Clean and disinfect them before and after use. Health Status In order for a student to continue in class or clinical if his/her health status has changed, the student must provide documentation from a health care provider, such as a doctor or nurse practitioner, which clearly states the ability of the student to fully participate in classroom, lab, and clinical activities. Health status changes include but are not limited to: 1. Injury/ Accident/visit to the emergency department/ Splint/brace/cast/sling 2. Pregnancy/delivery/postpartum 3. Major illness 4. Surgery The student must present the health care provider’s clearance letter to the Nursing Department Chair prior to returning to the classroom, skills lab, or clinical partner site. Building Security The doors into the campus are to remain closed and locked at all times. To gain entrance into the campus, students must ring the doorbell and have the door opened by the administrative staff during campus open hours (7:30 AM to 6:00 PM). The doors cannot be propped open unsupervised for any reason. Disciplinary action will be taken if this policy is violated. Communication • Each student is expected to become thoroughly familiar with the nursing program and Sumner College policies. • The student’s current address and phone number must be on file and current with the front desk at all times. Students should promptly notify the front desk of a change of address and/or phone number. • Each student is responsible for reading notices posted in the student portal and bulletin boards located in the common areas. • Student Services is available for students. Please call the school, email studentservices@sumnercollege.edu or visit the SCS100 Canvas Course homepage to make an appointment. • Faculty members will notify each student if or when a conference and/or meeting is required or deemed necessary. • Faculty members are available by appointment. Office hours may vary, according to faculty teaching schedule. Students may contact faculty to set appointments as needed. Internet and Email Access All students in a Sumner Nursing program must have regular access to a stable internet connection for remote courses/
