asking Pilate to make “sure” Christ’s tomb, the priests and Pharisees demon strated the fear that was in their hearts lest the prophecy, o£ Christ should come true. One wonders .why they should have had any fear if they sincerely believed Christ to he a deceiver! g However, i! is often1true' that in fidelity is not nearly so unbelieving as it wants to be when it fipds itself in the presence of stark realities. Face to face with death,.many*a ^imposed infidel suddenly manifests fesH^ and shows himself not nearly' so ^unbe lieving as he thought he \yas.| ' Nevertheless, on this occasion the tomb was made as secure as humanly possible. But Satan and his emissaries could not. defeat the plans. and pur poses of God. This very precaution which was made to keep Jesus in His grave has provided indisputable evi dence of His resurrection. 2. "The crngel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door." The stone was not rolled away to let Jesus out of the tomb. He was already risen from the dead. It was rolled away that the disciples might look into the tomb. In His new and glorified body, our Lord did r 't need an open door through which to pass. But in order that the disciples might “see. the place where the Lord lay” and look upon the grave clothes through which He had passed, the tomb was opened. 3. “ As He said" (Matt. 28:6).'in these three words there is, first of all a gentle rebuke. How often our Lord had told the disciples a b o u t this glorious event! But they had been so slow to believe. These words need to be pondered by Christians of every place and generation. In spite of God’s full revelation and glorious promises, we are dull of perception. As a result, much blessing is lost. Then, these words are words of fulfillment. They present in graphic illustration the tremendous truth that not one jot or tittle of all that our Lord has spoken can fail of complete fulfill ment. 4. "Come, see. . . go . . . tell" (Matt. 28:6, 7). In these four verbs we have Suggested the entire program for the followers of Christ in this dispensation.
