The name “Abraham” is all we see in this heart at first. The first look at a heart seldom re veals its secrets. We will open Abra ham’s heart and see what we find in it. ■ The first word we see is “PRAYER.” A man cannot be a real hero unless he is a man of prayer. Next we read the word “BELIEVED.” Abraham be lieved God when it was hard to be lieve. The third word is “WORSHIP.” He was a hero because he worshiped God. Next we find the word “FAITH.” Faith is believing what God has said. The fifth word is “SHIELD,” remind ing us of Genesis 15:1, “I am thy shield.” The hero’s heart has an “AL TAR” in it. No man can be a real hero unless he has a place where he meets God. The last word is “HUMIL ITY.” Let us remember, “God re- sisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble” (1 Pet. 55). If you want a hero’s heart, remem ber the secrets of Abraham’s heart. LES SO N T E X T : E x . 18:19-24; 19:3-8. J e t h r o ' s A d v ic e (18:19-24) M OSES had fled from Pharaoh out of Egypt, and thus Moses became a great leader. Jethro, hearing of his success, came to him with his daugh- ter Zipporah, and she became Moses’ wife. It appears that Jethro looked on Moses merely ds a son-in-law who had “made good,” and if possible he would get some of- that benefit for himself. Jethro thought there was a lack of efficiency in the way Moses conducted his work, and he suggested' another method. He looked at the matter from the world’s standpoint. He said Moses was working too hard and would wear himself out, and he advised an ar rangement whereby the work might be divided and Moses relieved.- “Every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge” (v. 22). The fault withJethro’s advice was that Moses was engaged in the work

With the fold and the two single edges to your' right, begin to cut out half of the heart, cutting from a point on the right- hand fold 1% inches from the top. When cutting down the left side, where the heart extends the farthest, leave the folded left-hand edges un cut for % inch. These will act as hinges later. Continue the cutting, making a point at the base of the fold as the lower tip of the heart. Open and you will have a whole heart in the middle and two halves on each side. Open the two flaps and using the word “ABRAHAM,” complete the Exodus 18:19 Hearken now unto my voice, I w ill give thee counsel, and God shall be w ith thee: Be thou for the people to Godward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God: 20 And thou shalt teach them ordinances and law s, and shalt show them the w ay wherein; they must w alk, and the work that they must do. 21 Moreover thou shaft provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of tru th, hating covetousness; and place such over them , to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fiftie s, and rulers of tens: 22 And l£t th em , judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great m atter they shall bring unto thee, but every sm all m atter they shall judge: so that it shall be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden w ith thee. 23 If thou sfialt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace. 24 So Moses hearkened to the voice Of his, father-in -law , and did dll that he had said. 19:3 And Moses went up unto God, and the Lord called unto him out of the moun tain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to- the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: 4 Y e have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how' I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto m yself. 5 Now therefore, if ye w ill obey my voice Indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the eai*th is m ine: 6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel. 7 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faceis all these words which the Lord com manded him. 8 And all the people answered together, and said, A ll that the Lord hath spoken we w ill do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the Lord.

to which the Lord had appointed him, and in that work there Was nothing either small or great. The Lord knew the strength required to execute the tasks, and He would provide it. •All matters ‘are of weight to the Lord and His counsel ' alone is sufficient (cf. Psa. 1:1). Up to this point Moses had relied upon God alone and had been successful. But now “Moses hearkened to the voice of his father-in-law, and did all that he had said” (v. 24). The after history reveals thai did not agree with this arangement. Later on, when Moses complained that the work was too great for him, God gave him seventy helpers. There he was given a message for Israel to remind them of what God had done. God desired them to remember that He was their Leader, with power to provide any thing they needed. God also desired that they should obey His voice and keep His covenant. This was the'covenant He previously had given. But they wanted “laws,” and the laws He gave were “for our good always” (cf. Deut. 6:24). Elihu also reminded Job that the sinfulness of man would not injure God, nor
