vants to possess that part of the in heritance that belongs to him. 2. "The children of Israel .*.. served Baalim: And they forsook the Lord" (2:11-12). Man cannot serve the devil and the Lord at the same time. He cannot love the world and God simul taneously. Some have desired to walk with God part of tie time and with the devil the rest of the time. They should ponder well the principle in volved in these two verses. To follow Baalim is to forsake the Lord. “Ye cannot serve God and mammon” (Lk. 16:13). 3. “And when the Lord raised them up judges, then the Lord was with the judge, and delivered them" (2:18). In Nehemiah 9:27 these judges are called “saviours.” They are a woftder- ful type of Him who is the perfect Saviour and who effects a perfect de liverance (cf. 2 Cor. 1:10). For a com paratively short period of time these judges delivered their people. But the deliverance of the Saviour is arf eter nal deliverance. 4. "Gideon" (6:11). Note the char acter of this judge as he is presented in verses 11-16: he was (1) an obscure man (v. 11); (2) a "mighty man of valor” (v. 12), only so because the Lord was with him; (3) a perplexed man (v. 13); (4) a commissioned man (v. 14); and (5) a humble man (v.15). God still uses men like this and clothes them with His power. Golden Text Illustration J oshua 1:9 When Tommy says admiringly to Harry, “You’re a brick!” I wonder whether he knows how the saying originated. In the golden days of Greece, an ambassador once came from Epirus to Sparta, and was shown over the capital by the King. He was surprised to find no walls around the city. “Sire,” he exclaimed, “I have visited nearly all the towns in Greece, but I find no walls for their defense. Why is this?” “Indeed,” the king replied, “you can not have looked carefully. Come with me tomorrow, and I will show you the walls of Sparta.” On the following morning the king led his guest out upon the plains, where his army was drawn in battle array, and pointing proudly to the valiant soldiers, he said: ‘.‘There you behold the walls of Sparta'—every man a brick!”—The Sunday School Times. Ruth, A Loving Daughter R uth 2:2, 3, 8, 17, 18 MEMORY VERSE: “By love serve one another” (Gal. 5:13). AIM: To show that to receive Christ as Saviour is the first and best way to show our love.

band had died. But she began right away to bring joy to her dear mother- in-law, Naomi, who was lonely, too. LESSON STORY: The first thing Ruth did was to decide something. She made up her mind to love and trust the Lord with all her heart, as Mother Naomi trusted Him. That is the most important decision that any girl or boy can make. Ruth said, “Thy God [shall be] my God” (1:16), and Mother Naomi was happy when she heard those words.

"For we know that, if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dis solved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens" (2 Cor. 5:1).
