Renting out a Refurbished Lease on Life FROM THE MARINES The entire team at Hawthorne has been through a lot, and I couldn’t be more thankful for the work family we have fostered over the years. One of our staff members has been crucial to our success, and I want to recognize him: Angel Martinez. Angel has been with us for 13 years. However, it’s not where his career started. After graduating in Northern California, he joined the Marine Corps, where he not only served his country but also gained a valuable education. While in occupational specialties, Angel worked at Camp Pendleton for 2 1/2 years before being stationed in Japan for 19 months. While in Japan, he learned the intricacies of financing. Angel developed a knack for adjusting accounts, balancing the books, forecasting revenues, and budgeting. After being discharged from the Marines, he ventured to San Diego. In Southern California, he had a career doing finance and title work at Capital One Auto Finance before life provided a happy surprise. His wife became pregnant! So they moved north to Centennial, Las Vegas, to be closer to her family. For a few months, Angel worked in a temp agency until joining ARS Rescue Rooter. Employees there soon took him under their wing, teaching him the tools of the plumbing trade. It wasn’t until a few years later that Angel came to work for us! Angel learned a lot in his first couple years at Hawthorne Plumbing | Heating | Cooling, including customer service and how to manage a team. He understands that every individual needs to be approached with a different management “If you asked Angel if he works to live or lives to work, he would choose the latter because he loves the work we do. He enjoys taking care of clients and seeing his team members grow as people.”

style while maintaining the team mindset among everyone. While he sees improvement in the atmosphere of the team, he knows quality service is critical for improving the customer experience. When listening to customer feedback, Angel was able to educate his team on how to effectively communicate their time frames to customers. Angel hasn’t only learned a lot about customer service and team management during his time here; he also has learned the finer details of construction budgeting.

In the military, they taught him how to meet a budget, and now he has developed a skill to routinely go under budget on projects. If you asked Angel if he works to live or lives to work, he would choose the latter because he loves the work we do. He enjoys taking care of clients and seeing his team members grow as people. When he gets up in the morning, Angel is ready to tackle whatever the job throws at him. When he’s not at work, Angel loves spending time with his family and playing video games. He’s a big fan of the mobile game Star Wars Galaxy Heroes and enjoys Halo, Gears of War, and the Madden series. So next time you’re in our Las Vegas offices, let him know if you’re a gamer or a fellow veteran! Angel loves to talk about his favorite games or swap stories about the Marine Corps.
