And they are so bold. In broad daylight,
a motorist empties an ashtray, at a traffic
light, in the middle of the street. An empty
coffee container is tossed from a speeding
vehicle. A piece of packaging is casually
dropped on a sidewalk.
Can you imagine what these people’s
homes look like? Are they up to their ears in
trash?
Probably not, because few animals soil

their own dens. (Pigs, the four-legged
species, are actually very clean creatures.)
Apparently, many human pigs do not
like living with their own trash. But rather
thandothenormalthing,andusetheproper
garbage disposal services available to them,
they opt to go for a drive in the country and

heave their refuse into ditches.
What kind of person does this? If you
have an answer, let us know.
Rather than deal with the negative,
however, let us focus on the positive.
Fortunately, the dumpers are aminority.
Community spirit is still alive and well,
as demonstrated by the many individuals
and groups, of all ages, who on a regular
basis go out and pick up litter in public

It is surprising that littering is still such
a problem, considering that we are all

conscious than we were years ago, during

the stuff turning up in the boonies. We are
not just talking about a few garbage bags –
there are pieces of furniture, household

What does this say about our society?
