BRANFORD PUBLIC SCHOOLS ADULT EDUCATION

ADULT EDUCATION

At the heart of adult education lies the mission to equip learners with the academic skills necessary for success in post-secondary education or job training, leading to stable employment. Through personalized guidance by career navigators, students set goals, explore career pathways, master job search techniques, and develop comprehensive career plans. Guest speaker presentations, like the recent visit from American Job Center representatives, provide insights into in-demand career fields and associated training programs. SAE’s initiatives reflect this commitment to empowering students. For example, a group of advanced level ESOL students attended a presentation at Branford High School in collaboration with Yale New Haven Hospital Volunteer Services, resulting in volunteer opportunities for three students with diverse language skills and backgrounds which will benefit the hospital and its patients. Two ESOL students completed the CT Pre-Apprentice Asphalt Quality Control Technician Program, preparing them for careers in asphalt science. Others visited CTState Community College to explore academic and workforce programs, with one already accepted to pursue accounting. In addition to these initiatives, SAE hosted a digital literacy class for ESOL learners, covering basic computer proficiency, internet navigation, and Microsoft Office software. Students also learned about technology's role in daily life, social media safety, and utilizing technology for career advancement, earning 27 certifications through the Northstar Digital Literacy program.
