T h en H e cleaned the closet, painted it, and fixed it up, and it was done in a m om ent’s time. O w ha t v ictory and release to have that dead th in g ou t of m y life! T h en a th ough t cam e to me. I said to m yself, “ I have been try in g to keep this heart of m in e clean fo r Christ. I start on one room and n o sooner have I cleaned that than an other room is dirty. I begin on the second room and the first room be comes dusty again. I am so tired and w eary try in g to m ain tain a clean heart and an obedient life. I just am n ot up to it !” So I ventured a ques tion. I said, “ Lord, is there any chance that y o u w ou ld take over the respon sibility o f the w h ole house and operate it fo r m e and w ith me just as y ou did that closet? W o u ld y ou take the responsibility to keep m y h eart*w ha t it ough t to be and m y life where it ough t to b e?” I cou ld see H is face ligh t u p as H e replied, “ Certainly, that is w ha t I cam e to do. Y ou cannot be a victor ious Christian in y ou r ow n strength. That is impossible. L et m e do it th rough y ou and fo r you. Th at is the w ay. But,” H e added slow ly, “ I am not ow ner o f this house. I am just a guest. I have n o au thority to pro ceed since the property is not m ine.” I saw it in a m inu te and dropping to m y knees, I said, “ Lord, y o u have been a guest and I have been the host. F rom n ow on I am g oin g to be the servant. Y ou are g oin g to be the Lord.” Runn ing as fast as I cou ld to the strong box, I took out the title deed to the house describing its assets and liabilities, its situation and con dition. T h en retu rn ing to H im , I eagerly signed it over to b elon g to H im alone for tim e and eternity. “ H ere,” I said, “ here it is, a ll that I am and have forever. N ow y ou run the house. I’ll just rem ain w ith y ou as h ouseboy and friend.” H e took m y life that da y and I can give y o u m y w ord, there- is n o better w a y to liv e the Christian life. H e knows h ow to keep it in shape and deep peace settles d ow n on the soul. M a y Christ settle d ow n and be at h om e in y ou r heart as Lord o f all.
