The Joy of True Wisdom Prov. 10:1

Just Before Returning to Formosa, Dick Hillis Said:

Oftentimes we think that young people overlook the feelings of their parents when they do things that are not fitting for a Christian to do. No Christian par ent can endure seeing his child living for the devil. There is no sword quite so sharp and penetrating as the sword that young people plunge into their parent’s breast when they sin against God. But, oh, the joy that comes into a father’s heart and into a mother’s heart when their child lives for Christ and refuses to go the way of the world! Christian conduct on the part of his young people brings great joy to the heart of their pastor. The pastor watches with keen interest the spiritual lives of his young people. He preaches for them, prays for them, pleads with them to live for Christ. When they heed his teaching he is filled with joy; when they walk with the world’s crowd it breaks his heart. But most important of all, obedience to God in walking wisely, in the light of His Word, rejoices the heart of God. If Christian parents rejoice, if the pastor re joices when the believers walk with the Lord, how must God Himself feel! It is the Father-heart of God that speaks the truth of Proverbs 10:1. (Read Luke 15:11- 32.) This parable sets forth the heart of God for His people. Let us determine, by His grace, to please Him in every thing. Let us be truly wise and walk in the light of His Word (Psalm 119:105). Aug. 23, 1953 When I Consider Thy Heavens Psalm 8; Psalm 19 God reveals Himself to man in at least four ways, and the first of these is through nature, that is, through the uni verse that He has created (Gen. 1:1; Psalm 8; Psalm 19; Rom. 1:18-21). It seems to me as if every man who takes the time to observe anything in this world round about must certainly come to the conclusion that there is a God who is responsible for it all. W e speak today of “nature’s laws.” What do we mean by this? W e must mean that there is Someone who has given these laws, in other words, there must be a Lawgiver if there are laws. The tragedy is that many men who study the fact and the consequences of the laws that are observ able in nature, will not take the next logical step and admit the great Lawgiver. Thus many scientists miss the Creator and see only the creation. In the second place, God reveals Him self through man’s conscience (Rom. 2: 14, 15). There is in every man’s heart the thought of God. The Spirit of God whispers in the conscience of every man. It is for this reason that religion is a uni versal phenomenon. Everywhere you go you will find evidences of the fact that man is by nature a religious creature. In the beginning God gave an adequate revelation of Himself (cf. Gen. 3). But through the passing of time men, after sin entered into the human heart (Gen. 3), grew farther and farther away CONTINUED ►
