It is with profound sadness that McKim & Creed, formerly Landmark Science & Engineering, announces the passing of Vice President Ted C. Williams, PE, FACEC, ExecEng, whose distinguished career, unwavering leadership, and commitment to public service leave an indelible mark on the engineering profession and the communities he served. For more than 50 years, Ted dedicated his professional life to advancing civil engineering, transportation planning, land development, and infrastructure throughout Delaware, Maryland, and southeastern Pennsylvania. During his remarkable 38-year tenure with Landmark, he helped build and lead the firm into one of the region’s most respected civil engineering, surveying, and environmental consulting organizations. A registered Professional Engineer in Delaware and Pennsylvania, Ted specialized in planning, site design, and traffic impact studies for complex commercial, residential, industrial, educational, and institutional projects. His expertise, integrity, and deep understanding of zoning, land use, and regulatory processes earned the trust of clients, government agencies, and community leaders alike. “Ted’s influence extended far beyond the projects he designed,” said Keith A. Rudy, PE, Regional Operations Manager, McKim & Creed. “He was a mentor, advocate, visionary leader, and friend. His dedication to excellence, public service, and the engineering profession shaped not only our company but also the future of our region. We are grateful for his leadership and will carry forward the values he embodied every day.” Ted earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, with a specialization in Transportation, from Drexel University. Throughout his career, he was a tireless advocate for infrastructure investment, STEM education, and professional excellence. His extraordinary record of public service included serving as Chairman of the Delaware Council on Transportation, where he helped establish transportation priorities and oversee the state's Capital Improvement Program. He also served as President of the Committee of 100, Chairman of Delaware’s Transportation Trust Fund Task Force, Trustee of the ACEC Business Insurance Trust, member of the Delaware Department of Education Construction Committee, and Vice Chair, Director, and public member of the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association. Nationally, Ted was elected Chairman of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), representing more than 600,000 engineers, architects, land surveyors, and technical professionals across the United States. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the profession, he was elected to the ACEC College of Fellows in 2011 and inducted into the Order of the Engineer in 2015. In 2020, Ted received one of the profession’s highest honors when he was named Delaware Engineer of the Year by the Delaware Engineering Society. The award recognized not only his technical expertise and business leadership but also his dedication to mentoring future engineers, supporting STEM-based education, advocating for infrastructure improvements, and serving countless professional and civic organizations. Reflecting on that honor, Ted credited many mentors and colleagues who helped shape his career. Yet those who knew him understood that his success was built on his own commitment to service, collaboration, and a genuine desire to improve the lives of others. While Ted’s professional accomplishments were extensive, his greatest pride was his family. He and his wife, Karen, built a loving home in Wilmington, Del., where they raised their children, Lauren and Ryan. Ted treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren and was known for never missing a family dinner, sporting event, recital, or milestone, despite an extraordinarily busy professional and volunteer schedule. Outside of work, Ted enjoyed gardening, golfing, coaching youth sports, and spending time between the family’s homes in New Castle County and Sussex County. His legacy lives on in the countless transportation improvements, development projects, public initiatives, professional organizations, colleagues, students, and family members whose lives he touched. He will be remembered as a respected engineer, dedicated public servant, trusted mentor, devoted husband and father, and a leader whose impact will continue to shape Delaware and the engineering profession for generations to come. The entire McKim & Creed family extends its deepest condolences to Karen, Lauren, Ryan, their families, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with Ted.
