With our new Student Village at an advanced stage of planning we are now looking at our next ambitious buildings to ensure Staffordshire University remains at the forefront of delivering state of the art learning and teaching.

Reporting to the Assistant Director Capital Development & Project Delivery the role is to determine and implement strategies for the effective delivery of space management services throughout the University. To provide and manage systems and procedures for the efficient utilisation of space. In consultation with University Schools/ Services Management Teams, develop and implement departmental space plans to contribute to the overall University Estates Strategy. To manage remodelling and refurbishment projects on changes to space usage.

Special Conditions The role holder will be required to travel between sites from time to time in a cost- effective manner, which may be through the use of a car. To be committed to working with the University to further improve the carbon footprint/environmental issues.

Assistant Director - Capital Development & Project Delivery

Main Activities

• To lead the development, introduction and maintenance of space management, systems and procedures. • To determine and implement space management techniques, policies and standards. • To undertake space utilisation surveys and space audits to ascertain space efficiency throughout the estate. • To determine and disseminate good practice in space management at all levels throughout the University. • To achieve and support Schools/Services in planning the efficient use of space to meet academic and service delivery requirements. • To contribute to the development of projects to ensure space efficiency is maximised. • To manage minor projects associated with remodelling / refurbishment for improved space utilisation. • Ensuring all aspects of the department’s work are carried out in line with University • Health and Safety requirements, statutory obligations and best practice requirements. • Support the Assistant Director – Capital Development and Project Delivery and Design & Commissioning Manager in the development, delivery and periodic review of the Estates Strategy. • Deputise for the Assistant Director – Capital Development and Project Delivery as required and therefore taking responsibility for reporting to the Senior • Management Team; developing and maintaining relationships with internal/external partners; and representing the University for the Estates Department as required. • Ensuring the University’s commitments to sustainability are realised both within the • Department’s own operations and more widely across all areas of University activity, working with academic and professional services colleagues as appropriate. • Contribute to the procurement, negotiation and management of external contracts for services relating to space management ensuring that such contracts are delivered to agreed standards of service and remain cost effective. • Actively contribute to the work of the Estates Senior Management Team and take responsibility for cross-divisional initiatives and performance.
