Corn Nutrien Starter Trial Starter fertilizer is required to consistently raise top end corn yields. Starter fertilizers have been proven to improve yield throughout the world. Low salt starter fertilizers can safely be used in furrow and have been important in raising yields across the globe. For this trial, Orthman partnered with Nutrien to help evaluate a few different starter fertilizer combinations. The no starter check was planted with nothing being pumped in-furrow and each treatment was applied in-furrow with water added at the rate of 8 gal/ac. All treatments were treated the same the remainder of the growing season. Corn Nutrien Starter Results and Discussion All starter combinations produced improved yield over the no starter check. Three of the four treatments produced a positive ROI. It would have been better to have multiple replications to help remove some of the field variability in this trial. We feel that all four combinations of starter fertilizer are great options. The data from our trial showed that the blend of Altura and Terramar produced the highest net revenue and ROI. Certainly any of these combinations are viable options of starter fertilizer.
