2022 Research Yield Book

Corn QLF Starter Trial Starter fertilizer is required to consistently raise top end corn yields. Starter fertilizers have been proven to improve yield throughout the world. Low salt starter fertilizers can safely be used in furrow and have been important in raising yields across the globe. For this trial, Orthman partnered with QLF to help evaluate their 7-21-3 starter with cornSpike and Kelpak. The no starter check was planted with nothing being pumped in-furrow and the treatment was applied in-furrow with water added at the rate of 8 gal/ac. All treatments were treated the same the remainder of the growing season. Corn QLF Starter Results and Discussion For the QLF starter trial we had 2 replications of no starter and 2 replications of the starter treatment. Both replications the starter fertilizer produced more yield than the no starter check, however one replication did not produce a positive ROI. When we average the data from both replications we have both a positive response in yield and a positive ROI. This is yet another viable option for a starter fertilizer. Figure 24 provides the data breakdown for this trial.
