High Plains FFA Orthman teams with High Plains Community Schools FFA to help students gain agronomic knowledge and research experiences throughout the growing season on a local farmers ground. For 2022, the trial was to evaluate corn hybrids from 106 to 110 day maturities. The FFA members and advisor reached out to local seed dealer to obtain seed for the trials. The FFA members were able to assist with planting, laying irrigation pipe, irrigating, and harvest. Furthermore, students got to learn about genetic differences and got to see phenotypic differences throughout the growing season. Additionally they had the opportunity to evaluate the effect of a rye cover crop on yield.
