Rooted in education, advocacy, and community-centered care, the organization is led by Dr. Shanika Valcour-LeDuff, a Family Nurse Practitioner and maternal-child health educator, alongside a multidisciplinary team of educators, doulas, nurses, and lactation professionals. At the heart of the organization is the Labor and Love Learning Institute, an educational hub for families and birth workers. Through digital learning, in-person child- birth and Lamaze classes, and professional mentorship, Labor and Love empowers families while strengthening the maternal-child workforce through knowledge, preparation, and compassionate support. Founded to provide love and stability during some of life’s most beautiful and vulnerable moments, Labor and Love is deeply embedded in the New Orleans community. The organization partners with local programs, offers accessible education and parenting classes, and supports professional development for birth workers, helping build sustainable careers in maternal-child health. Labor and Love is a family of dedicated birth workers who create a trusted village of support for NOLA families. Guid- ed by the city’s rich culture and diversity, the organization delivers culturally responsive education and meaningful, community-driven solutions. Families served by Labor and Love become part of an extended family, supported long after services end.
