A s an internist and pedia- trician, Vy Anh Mai, M.D. sees patients of all ages and is dedicated to providing high-quality, patient-centered care. Within her roles as an Associate Program Director for Tulane’s Internal Medicine and Pedi- atrics (Med-Peds) Residency Program, Assistant Professor and physician lead for UMCNO’s Primary Care and Transi- tions Clinic, she is uniquely positioned to be an advocate for both her patients and the communities she serves. “My work centers on patient care with a sustained commitment to serving the communities of New Orleans,” shares Dr. Mai. “I am deeply invested in the academic support and training of future physicians. Through my involvement, I work alongside colleagues to provide essential adult and pediatric care while training residents to understand and address the social and structural factors affecting health in our city.”
As a primary care physician, Dr. Mai is proud to serve the community by pro- moting wellness and disease prevention while helping individuals navigate the healthcare system, focus on local health needs and access to care. “I provide preventive care, acute care visits for illness, and long-term man- agement of chronic conditions,” she explains. “With training in both pedi- atrics and internal medicine, I am able to care for families across generations and support smooth transitions from adolescence to adulthood. I am deeply committed to providing compassionate, culturally responsive care that reflects and supports the strength and diversity of New Orleans.” Under the leadership of Program Director Jessica DeBord, M.D., Tulane’s Med-Peds Residency Program has launched the BAYOU Bridges Home Visits Program – a healthcare initiative
to bridge the gap in mental and behavioral health care caused by the current shortage of mental and behavioral health specialists. “We are currently conducting home visits for patients ages 11 to 39 who struggle with mental health,” says Dr. Mai. “Our team of primary care physicians are trained to screen for, diagnose, and treat common mental and behavioral health conditions, and home visits allow us to provide greater individualized care.” Through her clinical work, teaching, and involvement in innovative programs like BAYOU Bridges, Dr. Mai is building a healthier, more equitable New Orleans community she is proud to call home.
