C elebrating its 60th anniver- sary, Montessori School of Baton Rouge stands as one of the region’s longest-running Montes- sori schools in Louisiana. Founded in 1966, the school began with a coura- geous group of women who, inspired by a growing national interest in the Montessori method, launched a simple book study to discuss the method. With no internet and few resources available, they dove into research, secured fund- ing from the local Catholic diocese, and located their first teacher, Vera Kramer, in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). Kramer was trained directly under Dr. Maria Mon- tessori and traveled to Baton Rouge to be a part of the school’s opening. Together, their vision has shaped thousands of children over six decades. Today, Montessori School of Baton Rouge continues to honor the legacy with an unwavering commitment to an authentic Montessori education
early childhood education while also supporting the needs of working fami- lies. Generations of alumni now return with their own children, drawn by the method’s proven benefits.
