THE OFFICE FOR INSTITUTIONAL EQUITY The Office for Institutional Equity (OIE) is the University of East London’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) directorate and the institutional lead for social justice as a cross-cutting priority of Vision 2028. Established in 2019, the Office provides strategic leadership to advance equitable opportunity, experience and outcomes across the University, ensuring that social justice is embedded in how UEL educates, employs and engages. The OIE works in partnership with academic and professional services to embed equity and social justice within the core functions of the institution from curriculum design and assessment to workforce practice, governance and data- informed decision-making. In doing so, the Office ensures that compliance with statutory duties, including the Public Sector Equality Duty, is not treated as a minimum threshold, but as the foundation for ethical leadership, public trust and positive social impact.
