Board of Governors Meeting – December 11, 2019

Call to Order

8 Lee Stevens, MD, President, called the meeting to order on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at 8:30 9 A.M. Dr. Stevens led the board in reciting the Physician’s Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Dr. Paddock verified the presence of a quorum.

Approval of Minutes

15 After reviewing the minutes of the September 18, 2019, board meeting, the following motion was made:

MOTION (APPROVED)

ACCEPT THE MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEETING

ON SEPTEMBER 18, 2019 AS PRESENTED.

Actions of the Executive Committee

23 Dr. Stevens briefly reviewed two letters approved by the executive committee since September 2019. 24 First, was a letter dated October 3, 2019, addressed to the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners 25 related to Optometrists practicing outside of their scope by diagnosing and treating hypertension. The 26 second letter, dated November 11, 2019, was an opposition letter addressed to the secretary of the 27 Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, addressing a proposed executive order from the president 28 that would drastically expand the scope of practice for non-MD’s and DO’s. After some additional 29 discussion and questions, the following motion was made:

ACCEPT THE ACTIONS OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE ON OCTOBER 3, 2019 AND NOVEMBER 5, 2019 AS PRESENTED ON

DECEMBER 11, 2019.

Vacancies on the Board of Governors

37 Ms. Watson informed the board that after the 2019 elections there were still some open vacancies on the 38 Board of Governors and Council on Legislation. Ms. Watson further explained that per LSMS Bylaws, 39 the board can appoint members to these open vacancies. The current open vacancies are as follows: 40 41 Board of Governors: district 1 alternate, district 3 alternate, district 7 alternate, and district 9 alternate. 42 43 Council on Legislation: district 1 member and alternate, district 3 member and alternate, district 5 44 alternate, and district 10 member and alternate. 47 Staff provided board members with a 2019 year in review, which included updates on membership, 48 finances, the legislative session, calls to action, LAMPAC contributions and elections, QW, the Journal, 49 new physicians guide, due process rights, website, physicians leadership academy, white coat 50 45 46 2019 Year in Review
