8 9 Questions Regarding P.H. Jones Scholarship Fund 10 Ms. Watson brought to the board’s attention that Ochsner Queensland Medical Students don’t qualify 11 for the P.H. Jones Scholarship because the historical guidelines require you to attend a Louisiana 12 medical school. However, after doing some research, there was nothing in Dr. Jones gifting of the 13 scholarship money upon his death in 1970 to the LSMS that required a recipient to attend a Louisiana 14 medical school. Based on this knowledge, the ERF Board does have the authority to change the criteria 15 for the PH Jones awards. After much discussion and several questions, the following motions were 16 made:

Update on Physicians Coalition of Louisiana
32 Mr. Williams reminded board members that the LSMS serves on the steering committee for the national 33 Scope of Practice Partnership, which is managed by the AMA. That group provides grant funding, 34 drafts and disseminates model legislation, produces educational maps, and other materials for states to 35 use in their scope of practice battles. Mr. Williams reminded the board that he has been working with 36 the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians on a grant proposal to the AMA as we anticipate an 37 onslaught of scope bills in 2020 with so many new legislators. As a result, Dr. Broussard, Mr. Williams, 38 and Ms. Bowen will be presenting our $60,000 grant proposal and application next week to the AMA 39 SOPP Steering committee. 42 Dr. Stevens shared a recent lawsuit where a Baton Rouge physician with privileges at DeSoto Regional 43 Hospital was terminated because he would not admit a patient, who he deemed to be critical and 44 complicated, to a nurse practitioner. Ms. Bailey informed the board that she could not discuss the case 45 in further detail for legal reasons. Furthermore, a similar, but different issue also occurred in Chicago 46 where a local hospital replaced several long-time physicians with nurse practitioners in order to lower 47 their operating costs. 40 41 Update on APRN Issue in DeSoto Parish/Chicago, IL
