MOVE TO APPROVE THE SECOND RESOLVE CLAUSE OF R305-20 AS

WRITTEN.

3 4 R305-20 Transparency at crisis pregnancy centers - Resolved, that our LSMS require facilities that offer 5 prenatal or pregnancy services to disclose the educational background, licensure, and training of its 6 providers to patients at the time of service. 7 8 The board discussed the merits and potential pitfalls associated with the third resolve clause of R305-20 9 for quite a while. There was a lot of confusion as to whether we would be supporting facilities or the 10 dissemination of information. The resolve clause was amended, and the following motion was made:

11 12 13 14 15

MOTION (FAILED)

MOVE THAT THE LSMS SEEK AND/OR SUPPORT LEGISLTION THAT SUPPORTS FACILITIES THAT OFFER PRENATAL OR PREGNANCY

SERVICES.

16 17 After the first motion failed to pass, there was more discussion and the resolve clause was amended a 18 second time, and the following motion was made:

19 20 21 22 23 24

MOTION (FAILED)

THE LSMS SUPPORTS THE DISCLOSURE OF EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND, LICENSURE, AND TRAINING OF ITS PROVIDERS TO PATIENTS AT FACILITIES THAT OFFER PRENATAL OR PREGNANCY

SERVICES.

25 26 After the resolve failed to pass the second time, the board took no additional action on this item of 27 business. 28 29 R307-20 Firearm safety for children and suicide prevention – RESOLVED, that our LSMS supports 30 “gun violence restraining orders” for individuals arrested or convicted of domestic violence or stalking, 31 and supports extreme risk protection orders, commonly known as “red-flag” laws, for individuals who 32 have demonstrated significant signs of potential violence. In supporting restraining orders and “red- 33 flag” laws, LSMS also supports the importance of due process so that individuals can petition for their 34 rights to be restored. 35 36 Board members discussed the testimony provided at the House on this issue along with their own 37 commentary on the pros and cons of the resolution. Ultimately many board members felt the society 38 should not wade into this issue for political reasons. Therefore, after much discussion the board made 39 the following motion:

40 41 42 43

MOTION (APPROVED)

MOVE THAT THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS REJECT THE 5 TH RESOLVE

CLAUSE FROM RESOLUTION R307-20.

44 45 R309-20 Addressing the care needs of LGBT populations – Resolved, that our LSMS believes that the 46 nonjudgmental recognition of patients’ sexual orientations and gender identities enhances the ability to 47 render optimal patient care.
