As a matter of fact, I cannot understand why they would continue doing what they do day in and day out if they hate it so much. Each day I think about the path that our clients are on, and how our firm and our people impact their path for the better. So, when I sit down to respond to phone calls and emails, I always want to remind myself of how blessed I am and how much this phone call or email might mean to this other person. I remember one client who called me when his wife became very ill, and he cried on the phone while I listened. I didn’t say much because there was nothing I really could say or do to help him. At the end of the call, he was embarrassed, but we both knew that our relationship changed that day. My respect for him as a husband and as a man exploded.
I can honestly say that I have the best job in the world. I get to meet amazing people, and they all have a story that they are willing to share with me. Sometimes the stories are sad, and sometimes the stories are fantastic. I listen intently, and I try to ask relevant questions along the way. It is this sharing of stories that helps develop my relationships with our clients, and they bloom into a friendships. Over my many years of practice, I’ve had clients call me over and over with questions. I think it’s wonderful that they believe not only that I can help them, but that they trust me and respect me enough to know that I’ll always be there for them no matter what.
