And trial and difficulties loom His grace for me will be enough. —V ivien M. O gden .
Whatever, Lord, we lend to Thee, Repaid a thousandfold will be; Then gladly will we give to Thee, Who givest all. To Thee from whom we all derive Our life, our gifts, our power to give. Oh, may we ever with Thee live Who givest all. —S elected . "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed aw ay; behold, all things are become new" (2 Cor. 5:17). The spiritual life. which was planted within me at the moment of my new birth is the same spiritual life which I shall be living far out in eternity . . . . Many Chris tians do not realize this in Christian life. None of us when we were babies sat up suddenly and said, “I am alive! I am a human being!” That knowledge was an un conscious development, and years passed before we were aware of our consciousness as a human being. So there are thousands of "baby” Christians who have never come to the moment of recognition of the fact that they are alive in Christ. —D onald G rey B arnhouse . Novalis called Cromwell “a God-intoxi cated man,” and Richard Baxter, who was no friend of Cromwell, describing him, said: “He had a vivacity, hilarity, and alacrity as other men had when they had taken a glass too much.” That is what you want, and when you are filled with the Spirit you will go with this alacrity, hilarity, and vivacity that will commend your Master. —W . Y . F ullerton .. MARCH 12 Meditation “7 will meditate in thy precepts” (Psa. 119:15). There are times when solitude Is better than society, and silence is wiser than speech. W e should be better Christians if we were more alone, waiting upon God, and gathering through meditation on His Word spiritual strength for labor in His service. W e ought to muse upon the things o f God, because we thus get the real nutri ment out o f them. Truth is something like the cluster of the vine: if we would have wine from it, we must press and squeeze it many times. —C harles H addon S purgeon . MARCH 13 Humility of Mind B e not wise in your own conceits” (Rom. 12:16). The more thou knowest, and the better thou understandest, the more strictly shalt thou be judged, unless thy life be also the more holy. Be not therefore elated in thine own mind because of any art or science, but rather let the knowledge given thee make thee afraid. If thou thinkest that thou MARCH 11 Spiritual Intoxication "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit” (Eph. 5:18). MARCH 10 “Alive in Christ”
MARCH 8 He Knows "The Lord, stood by him, and said, Be o f g ood cheer, Paul" (Acts 23:11). That night the Roman barracks became to him a Bethel. It was our Lord keeping tryst with His discouraged servant in the castle. The Master knew where he was. “Friend," said one who had come to see John Bunyan in prison, “the Lord sent me to thee, and I have been seeking thee in half the prisons in England.” “Nay, verily,” replied John, "that cannot be, for if the Lord had sent thee to me, thou would’st have come here at once, for He knows I have been here for years.” Yes, the Lord knows where we are. —E rnest D owsett . "He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth boun tifully shall reap also bountifully” (2 Cor. 9:6 ). W e lose what on ourselves we spend; W e have, as treasure without end, Whatever, Lord, to Thee we lend Who givest all. MARCH 9 Sowing Bountifully
