I n 1970, a fire investigator felt there was a need for experts to assist in revealing the cause behind challenging technical failures. This investigator partnered with a professor at The Ohio State University and created S-E-A, a company that focuses on the “why” behind accidents and provides data that manufacturers use to create better, safer products. They accomplish this through forensic engineering failure analysis and accident investigation, fire and explosion investigations, vehicle accident reconstruction, digital forensics, biomechanical and biomedical consulting, visualization services (3D scanning, animations and medical illustrations), litigation support, and much more.

The majority of S-E-A’s client base is composed of law firms, insurance companies and manufacturers. Due to its employee-owned model, S-E-A has been able to focus on and invest in training its associates to become top-flight experts in their respective fields. They’ve even developed some of the latest technology in the industry. “We focus on organic growth and regularly add new areas of expertise to continue to be a one-stop-shop solution provider for our clients’ unique needs,” said Michael Jacobson, Civil Engineer and Manager, Baltimore Operations. “We prioritize a positive employee culture that includes industry best training and development and a companywide commitment to supporting the communities in which we operate. These values shape the way we support one another, serve our clients and strengthen the communities around us.” With 55 years in business, the company has much to be proud of. They boast 18 locations with their headquarters in

Columbus, Ohio. Jacobson said they’re proud to be a trusted resource for their clients by finding the truth and providing key opinions on cases big and small. They’ve also added a digital forensics team that focuses on uncovering and analyzing data to provide support to all lines of business. They’re also proud of their newly remodeled Baltimore office at Aviation Business Park. Although S-E-A has been operating out of Baltimore for decades — 30 of those years with St. John Properties — the Baltimore office was one of their last remaining offices to be refreshed. With the help of St. John Properties’ in-house design team, it is now consistent with the brand. S-E-A regularly invites clients to their office for laboratory examinations and meetings, provides training opportunities for employees and encourages multidisciplinary engineering collaboration throughout the office. Having a modernized, physical space in Baltimore to meet these needs was crucial. “Our new space checks all of these boxes and much

more, providing a great environment to continue to engage with our clients and foster a positive company culture.” Jacobson said they couldn’t have done the refresh without St. John Properties. “They were communicative, professional and simply experts throughout.” “We prioritize a positive employee culture that includes industry best training and development and a companywide commitment to supporting the communities in which we operate.” –Michael Jacobson, Civil Engineer/Manager, Baltimore Operations, S-E-A
