Congratulations to the entire Lakes team for a truly exceptional year! The growth we've seen as a College is a direct result of your commitment and hard work. We have all worked tirelessly to make our College a place that we are proud to call our school, affectionately labelled three years ago as “ The Happy Place ”. Our students are the recipients of dedication, care, kindness and composure. This is backed by: clear policy and process; consistent decision - making with the intent to improve and grow as a community; a progressive curriculum and extra curriculum program; and, a focus on evidenced - based data providing integrity for resources management and delivery. Our migration from Sentral to Compass at the beginning of the year set the platform for a new frontier of improved data collection at the College. Many hours of hard work have gone into transferring, updating, and analysing data. This has also included professional development for staff and training of families in the new system, however I would say that everyone agrees that this has been a great improvement for our College. What we have found are: anomalies in the system are now easier to fix; we have easier access to information; and we have cohesive integration to Department of Education data systems. This transition has simultaneously improved our implementation of processes and has set a strong foundation for improvements in communications and efficiencies. At a time of significant teacher shortages, our staffing has stayed almost unchanged for more than two years. This is a clear message of support and highlights teachers ’ commitment to their students and the direction of the College. To the staff departing our College, Mr Kim, Mr Cokuzovski, Mr Afridi, Mrs Hunjan, Mrs Fernando, Ms Nikoloska, Mr Ross, Mrs Allan, Mr Figueiredo Carvalheira and Ms Vogdanis - whilst we are sad to lose you, we are sure that you will be making a mark on the next journey of your professional career and take with you many positive memories and connections that will last forever. Thank you for your hard work, support and leadership throughout your tenure. Our focus on a calm - centered and solution - based mindset has continued to foster proactive professional conversations and a collaborative environment, not only for staff but also for students. Students are reporting feeling safer, empowered and supported. This is clearly evidenced by the decrease in incident reports and an increase in positive behaviour reports. Our Attitudes to School Survey results (4 - 12 student survey) on managing bullying outperforms network and similar schools and our overall performance report for wellbeing came in as HIGH, a feat only 11 of the 40 other schools in our network managed to achieve. Although we are only just beginning, a new era of learner agency has begun, with our students becoming agentic and engaged in their learning

The Lakes South Morang College Newsletter PRINCIPAL REPORT

Our College stands on the Country of the Wurundjeri - willam people of the Kulin Nations. This Country always was, and always will be, a place of learning and connection. To set our intentions for caring for Country, people and places within our College community for the 2025 school year, we are honoured to invite you to a special event.

On February 3rd , we will gather at our Primary Campus for a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony .

The event will begin with a Welcome to Country by Aunty Zeta Thomson , a respected Elder and descendant of the Yarra Yarra Clan of the Wurundjeri people, and the Ulupna and Moira Clans of the Yorta Yorta people. Aunty Zeta's words will guide us as we acknowledge and respect the Traditional Custodians of Country. Following this, Simone and Nicole Thomson , proud Woi - Wurrung Wurundjeri and Yorta - Yorta women, will conduct the Smoking Ceremony . Simone, an artist whose works are featured across both our Primary and Secondary campuses, will guide us through this sacred ceremony, which is a vital part of the cultural tradition to cleanse and protect the space, and set intentions for the year ahead.

Event Details: Date: February 3rd, 2025 Location: Primary Campus Time: 9:30am

We warmly welcome all members of the College community to join us in this meaningful and respectful ceremony to start the year with cultural understanding, connection, and unity.

We look forward to sharing this important occasion with you.

journeys. This, combined with continuous assessment and reporting, will be the future of measuring student performance and outcomes. We have multiple sources of student data at our disposal to use and cultivate individual student program plans. We have never been as data rich and knowledgeable as we are at the end of 2024. We also challenged our families to become more involved as partners in their children's learning, and their increased engagement has been invaluable in supporting our students ’ success. This is a mindset change for families, but we are committed to maintaining these partnerships and will keep challenging our parents/carers to join us in bettering the learning of both their children and developing a strong community hub for learning. This will continue to set a positive tone around the community, address gaps in learning away from school, encourage participation in learner agency meetings, fundraising, other important events and ultimately build relationships that bind us all together as one. We are definitely buoyed by the one hundred plus parents/carers who completed the Parent Opinion Survey this year and we will work with School Council to analyse their feedback and reboot for 2025. Our student performance/results have been relayed to you through multiple forums throughout the year. There are so many wins and so much that we are proud of. Our Primary NAPLAN data is now the best in our network for Literacy and Numeracy and exceeds local private schools. Our Prep results demonstrate that the majority of students have achieved our target of 12 - months growth. Our Year 5 - 6 students have had their exposure to Secondary programs expanded in 2024 and the transition will become simpler and more seamless as we continue to integrate. On Secondary, we are already ahead of our local Secondary schools in NAPLAN Year 7

and 9 Literacy. Our Numeracy data is slowly increasing, but with a clear and articulated plan, which includes additional intervention for next year, we are very confident of significant growth. On this, we are buoyed with our VCE Mathematics results. Two Year 11 students achieved a 40 Study Score for Units 3 - 4 General Mathematics and our Median for the class was 31. There is significant growth and a process to harness and grow in 2025. Whilst we broke records with the number of tours and an increased focus on transition, we still need to improve the retention between the Primary and Secondary Campuses. As a College community, we must find a way to retain all students so that our work and investment that we apply in the early years pays dividends at the top end of the College. We understand that families will move children for a variety of legitimate reasons, which is okay, however the virtues of staying at The Lakes for Secondary schooling are looming large. What may help in families ’ decision - making is our wonderful VCE Year 12 results. In only our third instalment of VCE, we can now say that we have serious credibility with remarkable results achieved by this year ’ s cohort. Our Median VCE Study Score went from 24 to 30 making us the highest - performing Government school in our network and scoring higher than the majority of our local Catholic and Independent schools. If we could manage 32, that would take us into the highest 20 performing Government school ’ s statewide. The other important factor is that 54% of students had an ATAR of above 70 and 15% above 80%. Our median Study Score of 30 in English was outstanding. The through line and pleasing message is consistency across all subjects. In addition, many students embarked on VETs and our VM program is extremely popular amongst senior students. Learning approaches may vary but the challenge to improve and achieve your best remain strong.

The Lakes South Morang College Newsletter PRINCIPAL REPORT

This year, we had 100% student completion, which is ahead of last year. Well done to the team of students, families and teachers for the work put into our seniors over all their years of learning. Our commitment to high expectation has only served to create an environment of professional growth surrounded by improved and purposeful classroom and facilities that are prerequisite for high impact learning. In addition to the various building upgrades, we are very excited about the new learning devices that will be installed over the break on the Primary Campus and the air conditioning on Secondary. Whilst our infrastructure program comes to an end, we are thankful to the staff who lead the facilities upgrades and their dedication and attention to detail. Our School Council has been enormous with their support and guidance. It is also their explicit expectation that we continue to provide a beautiful and immaculate learning environment for years to come. As a College we would like to thank Amanda Farrelly, the School Council President, and all school councilors Council for their commitment and dedication to fundraising activities and tireless approach to maintaining fidelity in processes and a high level of school pride. On behalf of Ms Lee, Mr Abney - Hastings and I, congratulations to all 700 plus students on your super efforts, dedication, approach to and quality of learning demonstrated this year. To our 500 plus families, your support has been everything to us, and there is no way we could achieve all that we have without your ideas, support, and care.

Have a safe and relaxing holiday season and a prosperous 2025.

Mr Panas

From time to time The Lakes South Morang College staff might need to administer first aid to students at school or during school activities. Parents/carers should be aware that the goal of first aid is not to diagnose or treat a condition. Students who are unwell should not attend school. If a student becomes unwell during the school day they may be directed to First Aid and monitored by staff. Depending on the nature of their symptoms, staff may contact parents/ carers or an emergency contact person to ask them to collect the student. If there is a situation or incident which occurs at school or during a school activity which requires first aid to be administered to a student:

We pledge to provide an environment that has zero tolerance to child abuse and will strive to work in partnership with our parents and community members to keep our students safe every day, in every way.
