The many benefits of magnesium
Australian statistics show that 33.5 percent of men and 37.2 percent of women (aged 19 years and over) don’t have an adequate intake of magnesium .
Magnesium is required for over 300 enzyme reactions in the body. These enzymes are involved in everything from nerve conduction to the regulation of blood circulation, muscle activity, and energy production. It’s important to ensure we are getting enough magnesium each day to allow all these functions to run normally, but unfortunately, many of us aren’t getting enough. Magnesium for muscle and bone health Magnesium is needed to support healthy muscle contraction function and relaxation. It helps relieve tired muscles and can also relieve and help reduce the occurrence of muscle cramps and mild muscle spasms when they’re related to inadequate amounts of dietary magnesium. Magnesium also supports bone health. It is needed to maintain different aspects of bone health including bone strength, preservation, and repair. Exercise and electrolyte balance Magnesium is involved in many processes that support muscle performance, including energy production and electrolyte balance after exercise. People who do lots of strenuous exercise may have increased requirements for magnesium. It also plays a vital role in restoring electrolytes to keep our nerves and muscles working properly. Being a
water-soluble mineral, magnesium can be lost through sweat and urine, so there can be an increased dietary intake required if we are exercising and sweating more. Sugar metabolism Magnesium plays an important role in sugar metabolism. It plays an essential role in normal blood glucose metabolism and the breakdown of sugars and carbohydrates in the diet. Sleeplessness and restlessness One of magnesium's roles in the nervous system is to have a calming or sedative effect. Taking a magnesium supplement relieves sleeplessness associated with inadequate dietary levels of magnesium and supports healthy sleeping patterns. Similarly, if you're prone to feeling restless or having an excess of nervous energy, taking a supplement may help to reduce these symptoms if you're not getting enough magnesium from your diet. Cardiovascular health If you're not getting enough magnesium from your diet, taking a magnesium supplement supports the health and function of the cardiovascular system, which comprises your heart and blood vessels. Premenstrual tension Reduced magnesium levels in blood plasma have been reported in women affected by premenstrual tension
(PMT). Magnesium reduces symptoms of premenstrual tension, including mood swings, irritability, and breast tenderness. How do I get more magnesium? Make sure to include magnesium- rich foods to your diet. Include green vegetables, legumes, peas, beans and nuts which are rich in magnesium. Most unrefined grains are a reasonable source – just avoid highly refined flours. Go Vita loves … A supplement such as Fusion Magnesium Advanced Tablets or Powder is a simple way to boost your magnesium intake.
