Classic triple distilled brands are easily found: Bushmills, Powers, Jameson or Teeling whereas some familiar double distilled brands such as The Tyrconnell or Kilbeggan are on whiskey shelves. Some of the contemporary renaissance brands releasing heavier and bold flavours by double distilling, or using different shaped stills, fermentation methods and various traditional and modern techniques which are able to bring out the most flavour possible in their distillates and mature whiskeys. Some really great whiskies to look out for are: Dingle, Boann (The Whistler) and, Echlinville (Dunville’s & Old Comber). Going back to their traditional way or whiskey production, peated Irish whiskey to watch for are: Killowen, W.D. O’Connell, Ardara, as well as releases from a number of distilleries that are releasing various profiles under one brand: Teeling, Waterford and Hinch. Irish whiskey has a greater variety of products that run the gamut of flavours and styles, so don’t be afraid to dive into that realm and explore some of the options that are possible in 2023.
