Her career spanned five presidencies: Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter and Reagan. The book takes the reader through the Vietnam War, Nixon’s impeachment and the Reagan years. Golf Course Reminders
As this golf season gets started our professional golf staff would like to give you a few friendly reminders we can all do to take care of our golf courses: 1) The no mow areas on the golf courses are by design. Some are marked as penalty areas and should be played as penalty areas according to the Rules of Golf. If a no mow area is not marked as a penalty area, then any ball that enters an unmarked no mow area and is not found is a Lost Ball. While playing your round, if you stroke a ball into the no mow areas, please play a Provisional Ball to help with the pace of play. 2) Though the grass in the no mow areas is shorter during the spring, it is not intended for golf cart traffic. You may enter no mow areas in search of a ball, but please DO NOT drive golf carts into these areas. 3) Please observe the golf cart rules for the day. Every effort will be made to maintain the 90º cart rule as often as possible. However, when carts are restricted to paths, please keep all wheels on the paths. 4) At ARL, when taking a divot please fill the scar with sand. There is no need to replace the divot as it will die. The Bermuda grass will fill-in within a few days. 5) At FFX, if the divot is intact with soil attached, please replace it. If the divot has shattered, please fill the scar with sand. 6) Please be sure to repair your ball marks on the green and a couple others at the same time. A properly repaired ball mark will keep our greens looking spectacular all season.
As the 2025 golf season is underway, the Handicap Committee reminds all players that to maintain the integrity of our handicap system, they should post every round played, except when playing alone. This includes playing less than a full 9 or 18 holes. If a player does not hole out, they should assign themselves the score for that hole that they would have most likely have achieved, or, if they skip a hole, their net double bogey score for that hole. Guidelines that detail how to post rounds are posted in the golf section of the website. We also remind players that the Handicap Committee monitors the handicap system and has imposed handicap penalties when players fail to post regular play and/or competition scores. Also, if you haven’t already done so, all players are required by the USGA to create a digital profile. If you have not posted a score since 2000 you will be prompted to set-up your digital profile on your first login to your GHIN number. If you have any trouble with the set-up, please contact Cody Pestun, Director of Administration & Play at cody.pestun@ancc.org . For additional handicap information, requirements for maintaining a handicap at ANCC and the handicap request form, click here . Handicap Posting Information & More

We are proud to partner with the American Red Cross to hold what we hope to be the first of many future blood drives. Our goal for this inaugural event is at least 54 donors! As an organization dedicated to supporting those who serve the nation—both military and civilian—this event provides a meaningful opportunity to give back in a way that directly impacts the well-being of others. An estimated 38% of Americans are eligible to give blood or platelets, but of those, less than 10 percent actually donate each year. Each pint of blood we collect can help save up to 3 lives and will touch the lives of so many more. What a great way to pay it forward and make an impact on people in our community and across the country. Walt’s dedication to the game and his commitment to supporting charitable causes through these events is truly inspiring. It took 20 years to complete the 100 Pro-Ams (2005-2025) at various venues, over 15 years at the Chubb Classic in Naples Florida. Walt exemplifies the spirit of giving back. Our team is very excited about this! If you are healthy and eligible, please come out. Donors will have the opportunity to enter raffles for various services from across the club. If you’re unsure if you are eligible to donate, register for a slot and show up to find out. We celebrate his achievement and look forward to many more years of success and generosity. Well done, Walt! Congratulations to Walt Jeffress for reaching an incredible milestone—his 100th PGA TOUR Champions Pro-Am at the Chubb Classic!

Mixed Tri-Level Team: Team Stars & Stripes Shines at Sectionals! Our mixed Tri-Level 3.0/3.5/4.0 Team Stars & Stripes, (captained by Tamara Ashford), recently competed at Sectionals the weekend of 11 -13 April and performed with grit and spirit! The team went 1-1 in their division, narrowly missing a shot at the Finals match. In their first match against Fredericksburg, they fell 2-1 with a heartbreaking 10-8 match tiebreak loss on the 3.5 line (shoutout to Erik Wittreich and Carey Bryant!). They bounced back with a 2-1 win over Anne Arundel. Each line earned a win over the weekend, a great showing from a strong squad! Roster: 3.0: Don Meyer*, James Moore*, Brian Reardon, Erin Alexander, Barbara Hancock*, Diana Hung, Linda Thierauf; 3.5: William Hancock, Joe Napolitano, Justin Swick, Erik Wittreich*, Carey Bryant*, Whitney Austin Green; 4.0: Marc Short*, Senthil Seetharaman* (non-ANCC player), Jennifer Bell, Jessica Harris*, Dana Moss *Indicates who played in sectionals. Other Club Highlights : Bobbi Shoop & Kylee Shoop made it to the Finals match as part of the Fredericksburg team at Sectionals. A huge congrats to Kylee, who received a Tri-Level Singles 2025 Sportsmanship Award! David Cross’s 3.5 Men’s team had a tight playoff match for Regionals, but came up just short in a close 2-1 battle. Great effort and strong showing from all involved! Let us hear it for ALL of our winter teams for the wins, the close calls, and the sportsmanship on display. We can’t wait to see what summer brings! Contact Neil Bennett at neil.bennett@ancc.org if you would like more information about any of our leagues.
Winter Tennis Wrap-Up: Big Wins & Close Calls! The USTA NOVA Winter 2025 Ladies’ 40+ season has officially wrapped up and what a season it was for our 3.0,
3.5, and 4.0 teams from ANCC! 3.0 Team Tamara’s Slice Girls (captained by Tamara Ashford)
Our 3.0 ladies of Team Tamara’s Slice Girls had a stellar season, finishing with an impressive 9-1 record and taking 1 st place in their league. They’re headed to Regionals in August for the third consecutive year! Roster: Erin Alexander, Ana Beck, Maria Browne, Quinn Byrnes, Varsha Chandra, Heidi Dillard, Eileen Gilligan, Barbara Hancock, Diana Hung, Petra Kimsey, Amy Mathis, Jo Maney, Linda Thierauf, Hope Wolf 3.5 Team Servivors (captained by Tamara Ashford) Our 3.5 ladies of Team Servivors finished in 2 nd place in their league with an 8-1 record, just behind a 9-0 team. But thanks to league structure, the top two teams advance to Regionals so they’re heading there too! This marks the first trip to Regionals in about five years for our 3.5 squad — well-earned and long-awaited! Roster: Lorena Alfaro (non-ANCC player), Carey Bryant, Ellen Dague, Ana Donovan, Debbi Elliott, Jolyn Green, Jo Maney, Michelle Mantey, Cassie Pickard, Kristi Wean, Leah Wilson 4.0 Team Sledgehammers (captained by Tamara Ashford) Our 4.0 ladies of Teams Sledgehammers rounded out their season with a strong 7-2 finish, placing 3 rd in their league just outside of Regionals qualification. But don’t count them out yet! The team is already gearing up for the summer season, which has been their road to Regionals the past two years.
