Luthuli shared that his first year experience was amazing and that he excelled in moot court. He was elected to represent UJ at the First Year’s Moot Court Competition held at the Supreme Court of Appeal and this boosted his confidence. He then went on to become a member of the institution’s Law Faculty Committee . He graduated at UJ with an LLB degree and further obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Corporate Law specialising in the Companies Act 1998. He served his articles at Blakes Maphanga Attorneys. He passed his admission examination in 2013. Luthuli is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and was duly admitted in 2014. He has right of appearance and appears in Labour Courts, High Courts and Magistrates Courts. He also appears frequently in dispute
“When you achieve your Baccalareus Legum qualification, known as an LLB, you have got to remember that you are now part of the intelligentsia of the nation.” These are the striking words of Bongani Luthuli who is a fast-growing intellectual in the legal environment and so much more. Born and bred in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, Luthuli always had a passion for labour law. “After I completed high school in 2005 I decided I am going to study law and I am going to study in Johannesburg. I received an offer from the University of Zululand and the University of KwaZulu-Natal but my heart was in Johannesburg. I decided to do a walk-in at the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) Auckland Park campus. I soon received a call to apply as I was allocated a space and awarded a bursary. That’s where my journey with UJ started,” he said.
