The Second Exodus - 26 Week

LESSON 9 2. Read Ezra 6:13–16. What contributed to finishing the rebuilding of the temple by the Jewish remnant?

3. Compare the Jewish remnant’s response at the beginning, when the founda- tion was laid (Ezra 3:10–13) to their response at the ending, when the temple was completed (6:16–18).

DAY 5

The Jewish Remnant Celebrates Passover (Ezra 6:19–22)

FOUNDATIONAL TRUTH

PASSOVER Passover is an annual feast memorializing God’s deliverance of the Israelites from their enslavement in Egypt (Ex. 12). God commanded His people to celebrate Passover every year to remember what He had done for them, and Jews still celebrate it to this day. Passover is a special meal eaten on the 14th day of the first month of the Hebrew calendar, followed by the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which lasts for seven more days. With their return to Israel and the completion of the temple in Ezra 6, the Israelites were once again able to restore the Passover as a national celebration.

1. Read Ezra 6:19. How would the priests have purified themselves in prepara- tion for the Passover ceremony? (See Ex. 30:17–21.)
