LESSON 12
DAY 3
God’s Providence in Our Lives
1. Read Psalm 139:1–12. What do you find meaningful, and why?
2. Proverbs 16:9 says, “The heart of man plans his way, but the L ord establishes his steps.” Planning is important, but in view of God’s providence, what are some things we would be wise to keep in mind regarding our plans?
3. Daniel 2:21 says, “He removes kings and sets up kings.” Proverbs 21:1 says, “The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the L ord ; he turns it wherever he will.” How can these truths inform our attitude toward our po- litical leaders and the way in which we pray for them?
4. Proverbs 16:33 says, “The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the L ord .” What are some implications of this truth as you consider this season of your life?
DAY 4
God’s Providence, Evil, and the Gospel
The twists and turns of the Joseph narrative (Gen. 37–50) showcase God’s amazing providence. If you’ve never read this story, please do. Joseph was sold into slavery by his envious brothers and ended up in Egypt, where God eventually exalted him to the second highest position in the land. God sent Joseph to Egypt ahead of a famine to orchestrate the salvation of his family, the Israelites. Joseph’s brothers eventually made it to Egypt, and the brothers and Joseph reconciled.
