LESSON 14 4. Saul’s partial obedience was disobedience that cost him his kingship. Like Saul, in what way could you be justifying partial obedience to God’s Word while still practicing all the outward tenets of your faith?
5. How did Samuel deal with both Agag and Saul? (See 1 Sam. 15:32–35.)
Mordecai Dishonors Haman, and Haman Plots against the Jews (Esther 3:2–15)
DAY 3
1. Read the passage. How might the history lesson from Day 2 play out in Mordecai’s refusal to bow down to Haman?
2. What is Haman’s response to Mordecai, and how far does his reaction go? (See vv. 5-6.)
Note: In Esther 3:7, Haman cast Pur, that is the lot, to receive the date for destroy- ing the Jewish nation. Casting lots was a common practice in the ancient East, but Israel also employed the casting of lots: Proverbs 16:33 says, “The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the L ord .” By casting lots, it was determined that the Jews would be annihilated 11 months from that time.
