The Second Exodus - 26 Week

LESSON 17

DAY 3

The Jews Destroy Their Enemies, Continued (Esther 9:11–19)

1. In verses 11–14, what further request of Queen Esther did the king carry out? Why would she have made the request? (See also Deut. 21:22–23.)

2. The author mentions three times that the Jews “laid no hand on the plun- der” (vv. 10, 15, and 16). Why do you think the Jews’ refusal to take any of the plunder was important? (See also 1 Sam. 15:14–23 and for additional in- formation and resources, visit grace.church/secondexodus.)

3. What happened in the aftermath of this deliverance of the Jews? (See vv. 17–19.)

FOUNDATIONAL TRUTH

JUDGMENT VS. SALVATION Over and over in the Bible, including in Esther, God shows His sovereign protection of and salvation for the Jewish people because God chose them. Deuteronomy 7 states that God chose them “out of all of the people on the earth to be His people and treasured possession” (vv. 6–8). And Genesis 12 tells us that God will bless those who bless Abraham and his people, and that He’ll curse those who curse him (vv. 1–3). This is why it is so important for us as Christians and as a nation to support and pray for Israel and the Jewish people, for “salvation is from the Jews” (John 4:22). We need to pray that the veil is lifted from their eyes, and that they will see Jesus as the true Messiah and trust in Him alone for salvation.
