The Second Exodus - 26 Week

LESSON 19 NEHEMIAH 3 : 1 – 4 : 23

So we built the wall. And all the wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work. —Nehemiah 4:6

Reconstruction of the wall of Jerusalem was an enormous undertaking and re- quired the help of as many workers as possible. Inspired and led by Nehemiah, the Jews went to work. However, as the wall rose, so did opposition from Sanballat and Tobiah. Due to fatigue from the building and fear from the rising external threat, the workers became bogged down. Amid their discouragement, Nehemiah ral- lied the laborers by calling on God in prayer and by employing prudent defensive measures.
