The Second Exodus - 26 Week

LESSON 19

DAY 3

Reconstruction of the Wall, Continued (Nehemiah 3:1–32)

1. What did the inaction of the Tekoite nobles expose about their character and their view of God? (See v. 5.)

2. Why do you think Nehemiah carefully documented many of the workers by name and the work that they did to build the wall? (See also Neh. 4:6)

FOUNDATIONAL TRUTH

UNITY Unity is the state of being made one. Paul said to “complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind” (Phil. 2:2). As Christians, in what way are we to have the same mind? Ephesians tells us, “There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—one L ord , one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all” (4:4–6). Being unified can bring about great results. Nehemiah and those unified around the building of the wall were able to finish in 52 days, despite much opposition. Unified believers under the name of Christ can do amazing things like share the gospel, care for the poor, adopt orphans, and so much more. This unity is a witness to unbelievers as Jesus prayed, “that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me” (John 17:23). Pastor Troy reminds us that if we are preaching the same gospel, there’s a lot of work to be done together. Obviously, we never ditch the truth for unity, and it is better to be divided by truth than united in error.
