The Second Exodus - 26 Week

LESSON 19

DAY 5

The Building Resumed (Nehemiah 4:15–23)

1. Read the passage. List some ways in which defensive measures were incor- porated into the ongoing building effort.

2. Psalm 127:1 says, “Unless the L ord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the L ord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.”

How do you see this spiritual truth embraced by Nehemiah and the workers in chapter 4?

3. Nehemiah and the builders are a picture of sober-mindedness and watch- fulness. What do you learn from the following verses about the importance of staying alert as a Christian?

Matthew 24:42 Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your L ord is coming.

Mark 14:38 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Ephesians 6:18 . . . praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and sup- plication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints . . .

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
