LESSON 24
• What questions do I have?
DAY 2
1. Share a time when returning to a place you had once enjoyed, you were shocked by its change and/or deterioration.
Nehemiah’s Final Reforms (Nehemiah 13:1–14)
2. Read Nehemiah 13:1–3. What did the people learn from the books of Moses? (See Deut. 23:3–4.) What did God want them to do?
3. Read Nehemiah 13:4–7. Just as before, Nehemiah is dealing with problems within the community. Explain the outrageous arrangement Eliashib the high priest made in verses 6–7 with Tobiah, while Nehemiah was absent from Jerusalem. (Note who Tobiah is and how he repeatedly opposed Nehemiah in 2:10 and 19, 4:3 and 7, and 6:12, 14, 17, and 19.)
4. Read Nehemiah 13:8–9 and compare it with John 2:13–17. How does the response of Nehemiah in this situation compare with that of Jesus in the temple? What does this tell you about Nehemiah’s leadership?
